    Melted RCD!!!

You not think? Maybe my load judegment is a wee bit impaired! lol. I think it's highly possibly, especially when you have a shower running & two rings all on the same side, including the kitchen ring. I may be wrong though! 25's mate. I wonder how long it actually would have gone without...

    Melted RCD!!!

My mate asked me to look at his board as a funny smell was coming off it. Looked inside & the neutral going into the RCD was melted & so was the switch. It's a split load dual RCD board. The RCD switches are both rated 64A 30mA. My first thought was that it could have just been a loose...

    Adding RCD Unit.

Think I might have to invest in one of these meters for future use then, lol. Perfect, I'll just use 10mm & split the current 16mm tails before the fuse board & split using blocks. Thanks.

    Adding RCD Unit.

Cheers. Cheers, no room for an isolator unfortunately. Ha. If only! It's a single RCD unit for the new installed cooker circuit. I'm assuming 10mm tails for RCD unit will be adequate? My thoughts on an upgrade of fuse were because with the new circuit I think the current fuse won't be...

    Adding RCD Unit.

Thoughts on this please. A new cooker circuit has been wired, the cable is already in the cupboard at the fuse board. The circuit will be terminated in an RCD unit fed with 16mm2 tails so that it has the correct protection. The tails from the main fuse are 16mm2 to the digital meter then 16mm2...

    Quick Meter Question.

The consumer unit was bought by the person who's property it was, I had to no say in it. They said that the cu with the 100A switch was the only one available with the required amount of ways. I just assumed seeing as the main fuse is 100A & meter tails are 25mm (thought they were 16mm but just...

    Quick Meter Question.

    Quick Meter Question.

Property has an old fuse board with 16mm tails is to be replaced with a new cu with 100A switch & 25mm tails, the main fuse is a 1361 100A fuse. The meter is only rated 80A. Do I just fone the local authority (S.S.E) to put in a 100A meter?

    Correct RCD switch?

The RCD switch in my small consumer unit in my shed is a 25A 30mA RCD. The switch is knackered but I've found an old one I've had from an older board. It's a 40A 30mA though, is it still ok to use this? Although the supply is only 4mm it is protected by a 32A MCB in the domestic mains board. The...

    New Garage Heights

Sorry meant 1200mm, god knows why a typed 1300mm! It's a new build garage detached from a new build bungalow. Happy enough with the heights was just double checking. Thanks.

    New Garage Heights

I assume that these heights are the same for new build garage ie 450mm min sockets, 1200 max light switches. The person who's garage it is in would like the sockets all higher as it's a better height for him, so I take it's just a max height of 1200mm?

    Earthing for garage water service?

Hi, sorry for lack of info, safe too say my brain was calling for bed time when I started the thread. The garage is not joined on to the house, it's a separate building. Don't think it's going to be a bathroom, just a toilet & sink, never really though about it but if it's done in plastic pipe...

If a garage that has a 3-core 6mm2 SWA supplying the power to it & has a small bathroom in it, what size of earthing is required for the pipework for the water? In normal circumtances it's obviously a 10mm2 earth in a property but not to0 sure about garage?

The link has been removed. I thought the drawing was a bit strange though. It shows the drawing for internal programmer say terminals 1 & 2= live out & return(this is where the link was) 3=perm L 4=Neutral but then for the diagram for external stat etc it shows the Live coming from the...
