Which do you prefer?
I must admit I like to sit on the side of safety so would feel better knowing I had a 12 Volt light setup but what do others think?
I mean the garden is probably the most dangerous place in a domestic set up for any electrical equipment.
Thanks.
Hi guys,
Went to a american customers house today where she wanted all her american table lamps put on a 230v 3 pin plug top, rather than use her plug transformers.
I told her that she would need to change the lamp holders and wiring to accommodate the new voltage, which wouldn't be easy. And...
Hi,
went to fit 3 downlights today customer purchased them. And they had no earth. i am correct in thinking that downlights metal surely should be earthed? They had the gu10 lampholder then plastic junction box attached. No earth. I drilled the corner and put and attached a cpc, just found it...
We're in the final stages of installing solar PV at home, only to be hit with a technical snag...
We're probably the last house in Western Power Distribution's network, and our 230V supply comes 1300m from the transformer, shared with three other properties. When we moved in 14 years ago we...
Why is mains domestic power referred to as either 230v or 240v? Why not settle on just one of them? (My limited knowledge tells me that the reality is usually 243v or 237v - is that right?)
Cheers.
Hi,
I am planning to change some downlights in a kitchen from 12v MR16 canisters to 230v GU10 fittings. I am using the original wiring (just removing the transformers obviously!) and there will be the same number of lights in the same places.
Does this require part P notification or does this...
NEUTRAL EARTH FAULT
I would just like to correct my message title for me mucking up :13:
A guy I work with was sent to change a mains board the other week. He isolated the supply and proved it was dead, He started stripping the board out and got a zap! He checking and noticed he got 230v...
It is planned to install a central 24V SELV supply in a domestic residence, e.g. to power LEDs.
According to my reading, BS 7671:2008 chapter 414.4.1 (ii) requirements for protective separation between a SELV and 230V circuits offer the following options
a) double insulation -or-
b) reinforced...
Been to a job this morning where a guy had 230v downlighters class two in an outside bar area, they are RCD protected, is this permissible or should it be SELV?Cheers
On a big site today and we got asked to have a look at wiring a Readymix tower (cement silo).
We don't do alot with motors so please excuse me.
The plug on it was a BLUE 4 pin 32A type. Obviously no instructions.
I would have thought 4 pins = 400V wired in Delta? and earth (from my college...
dear all,
sorry this must be a silly question, i am going to install some downlights for a customer, i found 12v downlight are nearly double the price of 230v ones, 12v is safer surely when you change the bulbs, but is there any other advantage? i dont think 12v ones last longer because i...
another silly question, i am thinking to buy a SDS drill for thick wall, but my cordless drill is not hard enough and the battery goes flat very quickly, but i found every SDS drill has 110v and 230v two options, why not everyone buys 230v so dont need to buy the transformer?
sorry you might...
After inadvertently drilling a hole in my pond, rescuing one fish from the jaws of death and literally bringing the other back to life, I now have an aquarium. (No this is not a prank call originating from a Durham area code). The issue I have is that pump we got with it isn't a plug-in...
Hi I was just wondering what peoples views were on 230v downlights in zone 1. I know you can get them IP65 rated but I'm still reluctant to fit them over 12v downlights. Has anyone else fitted these in zone 1 and what are your views? Cheers
Hi,
Had a question today. Why do the yanks use 110V and the UK use 230V? What are the costs and benifits? Which one is better? Any help with this one is appreciated.
Hi Guys
I am going to install some track lighting in a pub. I was wondering what the pros and cons are for 230v halogen fittings and 12v halogen fittings. Seen some really good 230v tracks that will work really well but im a bit concerned that they will gobble up electricity.
Thanking you
