I have a Megger MFT 1552 for sale, it has never been used, the tester is still sealed in the original packaging, the accessories are also sealed in there original packaging, it has the original calibration certificate from Megger.
This Multifunction tester is on the market for £500...
At what point does a new test kit have to be calibrated? Is it still yearly? A friend of mine is sure it is ok for the first three years, sort of like a car mot.

I have seen test cards which allow you to check the calibration of your multimeter to make sure that the continuity and resistance readings are still accurate.

Got our MCS NIC assessment for Solar PV in a couple of weeks, we brought a testing kit with clamp meter, thermo gun and irradiance meter. In the instruction manuals it says nothing about calibration whether it is or even if it needs it. Now read on here somewhere NIC required...
Just browsing through my NIC application pack and came across a leaflet regarding instrument accuracy. It taks about having to have the meter formally calibrated preferably by a UKAS accredited company etc, but also goes on to say that they must have more frequent checks by designated socket...
Have to get my Megger 1552 Calibrated and a reapir to the cable connections. When set to Ohms it seems intermittent on whether it reads open/closed circuit.
Took it to wholesalers who quoted £70 Calibration + £130ish for repair + VAT...
So for a spend of £250 Tops would I be better at looking...

Is it really nescessary to calibrat testing equipement every year. When it is done to multimeters and the like readings before calibration and after are the same so what is the point?:devilish:

It's time I had my multifunction meter calibrated. do I have to have someone else do it and issue a certificate or can I buy a calibrator and do it myself?
...if I can do it myself, will I then need to have the calibrator checked every year?
