Planning a home renovation where about half the house is being significantly altered (moving walls etc). All of the wiring, outlets, fixtures, and switches in those alteration areas will be replaced and a new electrical panel will be installed. The other half of the house just gets new outlets...
Luckily we caught this before any water had actually entered.
That's a humidity trap left on the top, nicely spilling over onto the C/U and leaving an obvious rust stain down its side.
We had a word with the tenant and left her in no doubt as to why this is a massive NO NO !!
So my question...
Morning all,
I have been to look at a job this morning to rewire a radial feed supplying two socket outlets off a 20 mcb. The cable from the board is a black pvc 2 core cable(does not look like copper) and has a separate earth run back to the met.
I am currently doing my 2392 and hope to start...
Load of downlights in a flat, all taped connector block joints. No enclosures.
No access above as it's a suspended ceiling with concrete above. Normally I'd be thinking C2, but I'm struggling to see the potential danger here so veering towards C3. Is there any written guidance on this...
Gas bonded with 10mm at front of flat, boiler at back of flat where a 6mm has been linked from it to an extraneous cold water pipe in bathroom.
No other extraneous water pipes in flat.
All continuity good but using the gas pipe as a conductor to link to water pipe.
C3 for 6mm
C3 for non...
Come across this a couple of times recently whilst doing eicr’s. Everything all ok except there is no access to the (presumably) earth rod. The cable just disappears under a patio.
Of course it may not even be an earth rod. It could be a plate or something. I’ve been giving these a C3 as I...
I am a first year electrician apprentice here. I work for a small company so my pool to draw experience from is critical and I'm trying learn as much as I can as quickly as I can. I'm reading the code book so I am aware what the bare minimum is but what resources would you recommend for best...
As per title, what code do you think is applicable when a 63A RCD has a 40, 32, 6 & 20A breakers?
And gas not bonded but was required at time of building (2012) although not now?
It's common in the US to build interior basement walls on masonry using furring strips covered with sheet rock. Is there a proper way to add electical outlets to these walls and is it required by code?
I have searched for an answer to this question but to no prevail.
BS3871's.... should these be changed? I have just done an EICR on a board with these and no RCD for lights serving bathroom but it has an RCD protecting all sockets, shower and the cooker circuit... now I have given 2 x C2 codes...
I have just carried out an EICR.
Earthing is TT. A 4mm green/yellow conductor leaves the CU and disappears under the conservatory, I get 158Ω when I do a Ze test.
There is a 10mm that goes to both gas and water. ZS tests are around 40Ω 's on sockets/lights.
I started a similar thread some...
Hello, I am working in the state of VA and they use the 2015 State of VA code. I am upgrading to a 400 amp service the meter base supports two panels dual lugs in it. One panel will be a 200 breaker "MAIN" and other will be future use. I know how to wire most of it but really unsure how I would...
When doing an EICR what code (if any) would you guys give to a piece of twin and earth cable in a duct outside.
The duct runs from the side of the house approx 10 metres to the detached garage. The cable is exposed for about half a meter where it comes out of house wall where it is clipped and...
I have an outlet in my home that is wired in a non standard manner. Its neutral and ground are connected together based on the wiring diagram below. Please note I have identified the root cause of the 40V and 17V and fixed it. So I got 120V between hot and ground, 0V between neutral and ground...
In the oil and gas industry (working around hazardous areas), I commonly see conduit seals in places that they should not have been installed, but not being able to wait for the conduit to be re-done due to project startups, the seals are left as they were installed. Oftentimes, these do not get...
Hi all
Have attached photo. Was inspecting property earlier in residential apartments and as you can see the supply has been converted to TNCS within the property and after the meter. This is the first time I have come across this before. I'm led to believe any TNCS conversion should be done...
The delights of being a rural based sparks are that my day started cold and frosty and talking to a horse (really did) about an electric fence I was about to turn off. A few hours later, in my wellies, I found myself in a stream, under a bridge.......
Very interested to get views on this. I...
Posting this more as a discussion than seeking advice, as I've already fixed the issue.
EICR on a house which at some point had been 'done up' with metal face plates for all the switches. When checked with a wander lead R2 was within spec on the ones I tested, but when taking a random one off...
