Am I right in thinking having c & g level 2 & 3 and 17th is deemed sufficient to be classed as competent and you can work self employed?
It's such a confusing industry!
Does anyone know if an electricians mate can work unaided as an electrician as a competent person and can he get public liability saying he is an electrician?
Does anyone have any experience of the above company, within a CPS capacity, for Inspection & Testing, (in relation to Local Authority Building Control (LABC).
Which one would you recommend, & why, (for the CPS), & which one would you not recommend, & why.
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has tried the new NICEIC online certification. I have done a couple of DEI's now and I find it very frustrating and more time consuming. I got the wrong property address on a form and had to issue a complete new certificate also. I don't think I will be using it...
Hi I'm very sorry if my first post is in the wrong place. I'm now starting my own electrical installations company involved in industrial/domestic and commercial installations.
I understand that becoming niceic approved contractor is the long term goal but in the short term could I sign off and...
Hi guys, I am slightly puzzled about this, if a commercial ground floor shop is to get rewired using a single phase consumer unit and it has a three phase supply but only one phase is supplying the shop and the other 2 phases are supplying different property's upstairs not belonging to the shop...
Hi all,
was going to buy some software to help with certification and heard amtech and easycert are pretty good but have heard now that the Niceic are going to be doing a pay per use scheme where by we wouldn't own the software or indeed the rights so no up front fees.... Could anyone tell me...
E.g. for letting agents. Does everyone go by the book, for example, 3 bedroom semi with gardens, electric shower etc. Old wooden backed wylex falling to bits, no RCDs, no bonding, metal light fittings on early 60s installation with no CPCs,
Do you,
1: Issue unsatisfactory EICR, get the go...
Hi guys
iv not been long registered with the niceic and have just recently completed a re-wire incorporating interlinked fire alarms with battery backups and one heat alarm. I installed the fire alarms on both the upstairs and downstairs landing and the heat alarm in the kitchen.

Whenever I've installed a new consumer unit I normally fill out an Electrical Installation Certificate & an Electrical Installation Condition Report but someone has told me this is too much & that all I need is the Electrical Installation Condition Report. Thoughts? I was under the impression...
Hi, I have done some renovation in customer's kitchen which was changing place of few sockets. After that I certified my job. It was all included in price details before I started anything and she said ok, the price is fine, do it.
So I finished everything, asked for money and she was like...
competent staff accessing panels....
Hi guys,
I would appreciate some advice and opinions on this one please,
I think we all know the "common sense" answers here but anything to back this up either way would be appreciated.
Lets suppose i have an Electrical Panel,
single phase, containing...
Hi all, I'm having a discussion about the correct NICEIC Certs to produce on a job. The scenario is, we have carried out works out on a big commercial site which include full rewires on three separate distribution boards each being 18 way 3 phase, the main SWA feeding each DB has stayed also the...
Since the design of most modern condensing boilers use the boiler casing as part of the combustion system, meaning only a gas safe engineer can remove them how many refuse to wire them up/ remove the case without the gas safe engineer present? and i guess more importantly how many realise that...
At the moment I have electrical wires running in trunking attached the walls, which I find somewhat unsightly, especially
in view of redecoration that I am carrying out at the moment. I would like conceal this wiring in trunking within the walls
(trunking plastered over), which may possibly...
Am part p electrician been asked to do some installs for pv am i correct that as a registered part p sparks we can install new circuiys for pv and do eic for job and notify job as new cicuit
Am bit mistified as new circuit would become a load circuit from pv
My house, built in 1960, has mineral insulated cabling and a voltage operated earth leakage circuit breaker. We moved in 7 years ago (don't suppose that is relevant though :) )
Due to some rebuilding work the meter needs to be moved, and in preparation for that my electrician has fitted a new...
Hi guys
i know this has been done do death, i have searched but i've not been able to find an answer. I'm having a mental block so just thought i would ask what everyone else puts.
