Hi all.
Been asked to fit some decking lights, customer has bought 20 of the from ebay.
0.75 flex, three core.
Initially i thought these were 230v, but upon connecting 12v across live and neutral they light.
Are these just 12v but wired in flex with a LNE?
Cheers.
Hi all, just working through an assignment at the moment, got everything done other than two questions worded "select an appropriate minimum sized CPC and confirm your selection by calculation". I've already calculated my tabulated current, volt drop and live conductor size for each question...
Hi,
just looking for for a bit of advice
i changed a board yesterday for a house I have been working on in their kitchen.
i came to test the bathroom lights in the downstairs room bolted on the back of the house with flat roof to discover that there is no CPC at the light or pull switch, they...
Only reason I can see is if accessories might be changed to those with metallic enclosures in the future and then you'd need to pull a CPC in which would be a big hassle?
No sockets, just lights which are supplied with 2 core flex, Ansell 50w led floods.....linked by PVC conduit, fully enclosed...
Hello I was wondering if anyone could help me on what is the most appropriate method to test continuity of cpc on a 2 core steel wire armoured cable to a distribution board.
Hi guys.
We have been brought into a domestic installation to complete remedial works. The previous electrician who worked for a builder was not very competent in his work and also could not sign off any of his work. He wired a new extension which included a kitchen. The council has been...
Hey all,
To calculate the resistance of the CPC you end up with an equation with (R2 + RN) / 4 = R1 where R1 is the line conductors resistance, R2 is the CPC resistance and RN is the resistance of the neutral wire.
My question, Is this method below also an acceptable way of doing it (if the...
Good evening
We have recently replaced a class 1 light. The cpc was provided via aa separate cable. I have found this evening that the separate cpc cable has been spliced into the main equipotential bonding cable (10mm2).
Doesnt this mean that the lights are now connected directly to the...
I have a query. 4 distribution boards, each fed by 25mm2 double insulated tails (approx 30m away) in a roof void. Only 1 16mm2 earthing conductor for all 4 submains. The earthing conductor is then connected at the first board and looped to the other three boards. Is this acceptable? I thought BS...
As you may know looking at some of my posts I've been thrown back in the deep end recently – and don’t have much experience with complicated calculations. As this is the first time I've used SWA to go from the main supply to the primary CCU, and as I'm using the steel armour as my CPC, rather...
Hi,
im doing a partial reword for someone at the moment, some of it was going to stay but have convinced them otherwise.
some of it that was going to stay is wired as below, I've ripped all of it now, but it was wired with grey twin cable no CPC then a separate un sheathed earth as per...
Good morning, :)
I saw lighting circuits done with 2-core cable (red-black) with no earthing conductor. I was wondering in a case of an earth fault is the RCD/RCBO going to trip?
I think if a metal switch or a chandelier becomes live, the RCD/RCBO won't trip due to the missing cpc! But is it...
Was asked today why we can use the armouring of an SWA as an Earthing conductor but not as a main protective bonding conductor unless we apply the resistivity formula for steel which result is8x that of copper. Can anybody explain this in simple terms because the person i am trying to explain...
Hi guys, first time I have posted on the site so looking forward to hearing from you all. I am carrying out a kitchen refit and while testing the ring circuit I have come across a lack of continuity on the CPC circuit. I have carried out testing using the two ends and a R2 wander lead and have...
HI all
Am i being thick here or Ive got to be missing something.
When your faced with lighting with no earth client does not want to rewire as the places is nicely decorated, and they can’t afford the extra cost. How do you fill in your certs.
eg. fit new SELV down lights to bathroom on...
Hi all.
whats people's thoughts on having class 1 switches and fittings on an installation that is wired in old imperial conduit acting as the sole cpc? If there's a fly-lead from switch to back box surely this will be fine? Getting a lot of mixed anwsers on this some saying no good others...
Advice please
installing a in line bathroom fan in a house ,their was no cpc on the lighting circuits ,I told owner I could install fan but couldn't connect to power due to no cpc
advice?
Alrite lads,
I'm a commercial spark so don't do much domestic but a mate of mine asked me to Pop round and change a light fitting in his kitchen 5 min job, he had an old 6ft fluorescent which was shot and he has brought a new class 1 fitting.
I remove the fitting and there's no CPC so I...
Hi all, I was testing an installation today and every thing seems to be in order till I found a piece of white pvc conduit with a single 2.5 brown cable in it with no cpc. The conduit had been installed to pick up a permanent feed to a PIR from an emergency light fitting.
Both lights and the PIR...
