Hi all,
I was changing an emergency light fitting (maintained) and came accross an unusual wiring configuration. There were 2 supplies, 1x 4 core from emergency light socket and 1x 3 core from general light socket. There were 5 terminals inside the light fitting marked, T, L1, L2, N, E. The...

Hi,
The ladies toilet where I work had three lights off last week. I replaced the lamps in each fitting and two work but the last one didn't. It is an emergency light and is the last light on the circuit if that helps. I looked above the ceiling and they are all individually plugged in to a...
Hi all i was hoping for some advice, I am carrying out an annual emergency lighting test tomorrow in a hotel. Part of the hotel is no longer in use and all supplies have been locked off. Should this part of the building still have emergency lighting in place in case emergency services need access ?
There is high level emergency lighting where I work. It keeps switching itself on and off whether the sensor is activated or not - its on timer so shouldn't be changeable like this.
Anyone have an idea of the problem?
Hi All,
I've been asked by a client to fit 10 NO Emergency stops points in a training facility. My question is has anyone fitted these before (I'm guessing the answer is yes) why would a switch like this be used for emergency stop?
he request is also to fit 10 NO fused spurs too.
Am I being...
I'm carrying out an inspection report certificate for emergency lighting for an HMO house. I have noticed that there are no emergency lights in the back dining area and kitchen. The electricians who fitted then, did so in 2013 only in the stair wells and front corridor leading to main door. I...
Hi All
The fishtail key for the emergency lighting test switches has gone missing from my workplace. This prompted a discussion about whether it is safe to use any thin metal object to activate the switches.
Anyway, is it safe to use pretty much any thin object that will fit in there or is...
I have to change a number of batteries in emergency maintained lights, but am slightly concerned if I keep the mains power on I might potentially mess up the electronic modules.
Turning the power off will slow me down so I prefer not to.
Not something I do too often so advice appreciated?
In a standard set up for emergency (non maintained) lighting ,in an HMO for example, is it necessary for the lighting to form a single circuit i.e to be simultaneously isolatable for testing purposes or can each light be fed separately with its own test switch?
Ordered new emergency lights in, but for some reason when wired up, the led light flashes for a second, then the led charge indicator lights for a second and it keeps going on like that, but then I have wired it up to a plug, but when i turn the plug on, it turns on for a second, trips the...
Hi there I’m after some advice if possible.
I currently have a non-maintained emergency light fitting wired to an emergency fish tail switch in my home. I am looking to remove these and replace with a normal light fitting.
Whilst I am quite happy to tackle most things I wanted to get some advice...
Afternoon guys,
Just a quick question in regards to annual inspection and testing of emergency lighting as per BS5266. A supervisor at work has asked us as engineers to carry out a load of 3hour annual discharge inspections on various sites and a few engineers have refused to do this.
This is...
Hi All,
New to the forum and was seeking some advice.
I have arrived at a site to complete yearly 3 hour emgencey lighting test. Once completed I switched the power back on and half the emergency lamps haven't turned back on. When you turn the power off, the lamp lights up in emergency mode...
Trying to wire up emergency lighting, for some reason, this doesn't turn on at all, even when power is isolated it does not come on, so ive added pictures to see if wiring and everything is correct, tested to ensure there was power coming in when CB was on, and that there was none when it was...
Good morning people. Just been having a "chat" with another sparks on site regarding core usage of three core for emergency lighting. I have always (and everyone I know) has used brown as switch line and black as permanent. He has wired a whole floor of a care home opposite to me. Your views as...
Not quite got to this stage in the project yet but trying to think forward on what needs to be done, I haven't had much experience with wiring emergency switch lighting, Live and Switch Lives. Can someone tell me if the wiring is wrong in this wiring sketch and how to rectify.
I've deliberately...
I am currently doing a 3 hour duration test in Selfridges for the em lighting. When I turn off the mcbs the emergency lighting does not activate. I have asked if this is to do with the central battery system but the staff will not let me and my colleague touch it. Just wondering if anyone has...
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I have just rewired a HMO and have now been asked to do fire alarm and emergency lighting.
I have wired both when working for previous company, but always followed drawings and never had anything to do with design. I started it today and after a bit of...
