I was chatting with a PAT tester who mentioned that he would fail 4-way extensions where the flex had been trunked and the client was using them with appliances drawing 13 amps. His reasoning was that the trunked flex should be de-rated. Would you agree with this?
Testing a school which has had lots of LED upgrades with exor controls. 12 way unit above the suspend ceiling with flex's down to the switches. All the leads were 12/14 meters long with the most of it thrown across the ceilings like spiders wed. I use to have a table of max loads and sizes but...
I am preparing the way for a local electrician to connect up a water filled electric towel rail 300w from an RCBO in the CU by installing some conduit within my internal wall cavity. He hasn't been around to look at the job yet, so my question is:
Does the cable outlet position have to be above...
Does anyone know where I could buy round braided or twisted flex, South Yorks area.
Need it urgent tomorrow, so buying online not an option....well it may have to be the only option.
Needs to be black or brown. Been to loads of small diy shops, some stock 1.00mm for irons etc but only in white...
Hi.
Just a question from a slightly confused trainee about core colours on a three phase appliance.
I was diagnosing a fault on a three-phase saw today (found it - dead isolating transformer) and found that the incoming cable (4 cores) were coloured and connected as such:
L1 Brown
L2 Black...
I have been searching section 701 but still cant work out the answer to this one..
Can you install a flex outlet plate in zone 2? Bearing in mind it is not switchgear nor current using equipment.. But is also not IPX4 rated.

Hi guys,I've got a small project of outside lights to do at my house. I've purchased led eyelid die cast bullhead lights due to install in my passage. I've a conundrum of what cable to use. I'm thinking of black uv protected black flex as the lights are black too , using whiska box. But I'm also...
Got a ceramic electrical hob with 4 rings. All add up to 6kw. The only instructions for installation are
"For UK only
A Switched Fused Connection Unit to BS 1363 Part 4 is
recommended.
The fuse must be rated at 32 Amps"
Is there something I'm missing but surely the hob should be...
Having a discussion with someone about installing flex with trailing lead socket for integrated kitchen appliances. Run from unfused 13A DP isolator as spur from ring.....
I always thought these type of sockets were designed for extension leads not for long term/permanent use??
Hi,
As per title, how would you feel about connecting a few garage lights onto some 0.75mm flex straight into the 6A MCB, ignore switching, just that its 0.75mm.
I have to say I normally go via a FCU but in this occasion I don't feel I need to as its in the garage with a 6A MCB I can come off...
Hi chaps,
Spent today repairing a load of 63A and 125A three phase flexes.
When taking the damaged plugs off I was somewhat surprised to find that two of the cores were the same colour...
Can anyone explain why I've got two black cores and one brown? I was expecting to find black, brown and...

Evening all, hoping someone can clear something up for me.
I was told today that all stranded flex cables need to be pin crimped or soldered before connections are made, eg, for a towel rail or small wall heater etc. He said the regs were altered in April 2012?
This is the first I've heard...
