I had a job to replace downlights with fluorescent battens, however when I came to the job they wanted the downlights to stay as well, this meant a large increase in the job requirement supplying new wiring for the fluorescents.
I wired this is such a way that the switched line for the...
Hi,
I've been told, Fluorescent lighting within domestic household garages needs to be of IP54 (enclosed luminaire). The current lights are std battens, without diffusers.
In the case of the garage in question, the lights are around 2.5mtrs from floor level, well away from external influences...
Hi all,
Replacing a 6ft fluorescent strip light in an office, took the old one down and put the new one up but the connections on the old one arn't the same as the new one bummer!!! There must be at least 4 sets of wires coming out the cieling, on the new fitting there is just the usual L N...
Fitted two 2 foot fluros for a customer but he now says they are too bright. Are there any cheap ways of successfully dimming them? I read that a dimmer switch will work to about 50%, turn on full power and once its fired up turn it down, has anyone tried this?
Thanks
Jon
I purchased some glass lighted shelves in Italy and need to install them in my home in Canada. The fixture inside is 220-240V 50Hz with a 21W fluorescent tube. Can I connect them to my 110V 60Hz? I plugged one in and it seems to work. I also purchased a 110V 60Hz fixture here in Canada but it...

Customer has contacted me saying he is having trouble finding replacement tube for an 8ft fluorescent (marked 125W/23 92inch long according to him)
Am I right in thinking that it is impossible to get 8ft tubes any more? If so what can I suggest - replace it with two 5ft battens? Or a 5ft twin...
I don't know if this is of any use, but I undertook my 204 exam today, passed with an distinction. I found it pretty easy and if there is anyone about to take it, don't panic or worry. It's a pretty simple exercise in taking a few readings and documenting them. You also have to explain why the...
I have an LED T8 tube, 1.2m, on 240VAC it draws about 80mA and should have 18W. I do have compared it with a 1.2m fluorescent T8 tube, 36W plus ballast which has on 240 VAC 400mA. The current I have measured with an AC multimeter. Means the LED light saves 5 times the power. If I compare the 18W...
client has about 24 1200 x 600 recessed fittings in suspended ceiling ( shop ). problem is 6 are not working. it's not the tubes, there are no starters, so it's got to be the ballast units. ordered from local supplier 3 weeks ago. today they say they can't get them. each fitting has only one...
i fitted 4 5'twin corrosion proof T8 with electronic ballast
3 of them are giving trouble -sometimes they start
other times not -or might go off after a few minutes
i assume there's a fault with ballast-i doubt it's voltage but will check
anyone had similar issues thanks
Hi All,
A friend has just mentioned that when they turn their living room light off (a class 1 fitting with 3x 60w lamps controlled by a 1 gang, 1 way switch switch) the flourescent light in the kitchen goes off for about 5 seconds too then comes back on. Its controlled by a 1 gang, 1way...
Had a look at a job earlier which is to replace 9 6ft twin fluorescent fittings in a small warehouse.
At the moment there is nearly 20 single 5 ft fittings, all fed from 1 32 amp MCB:eek: and on 3 switches. All cabling is in 1.5mm t+e believe it or not:rolleyes: run on some cable ladder that...
fitted 4 'alaska' brand 5ft twin corrosion proof w/magnetic ballast and T8 tubes last week
supplied by CEF
everyone of them seemed to be faulty-take off the cover or give them a tap and they'd come back on
eventually i put it down to the end caps-voltage was ok and i don't think it was the...
Hi,
generally speaking if a afluorescent light isn't working is there any quick way of narrowing down the problem between the starter, the tube and the ballast/choke. Apart from changing starters and tubes (and i can't carry the latter around on the off-chance) is there a way of testing each...

Hi,
I was carrying out an upgrade of a 3 phase distribution board today.
Everything seemed to go ok apart from no neutrals corresponding with their live conductors.
But when I have re-energised the circuits there is a group of fluorescent lights not working.
Thay are just glowing at either end...
