The large domestic garage that I wish to test has a single lighting circuit with 6 fluorescent lamps inside and a floodlight with a PIR. It also has neons on each of the 2 way switches for the internal lighting and a neon on the switch for the outside floodlight with PIR. Any tips on how to go...
The insulation resistance of two circuits is of 40M and 36M respectively. When tested together what would be approximately the total insulation resistance:
A: 1440M
B: 76M
C: 19M
D: 4M
I don't know the answer, so how do you figure this out?
:rolleyes2:
Anyone who knows. Lighting circuit with MAINS voltage LED downlighters. If I do a 500v Insulation Resistance test on LED bulbs. Will it knock out the bulbs.
I know its electronic equipment that gets destroyed predominently.
Its quite a few down lighters, didn't want to hit the button without...
Just at a job this morning where customer has an RCD that trips whenever it likes with no pattern in when it trips.
Testing lives to CPC found that RFC was showing 10.5 Meg ohms which as opposed to >299 for all other circuits. The only item of equipment that wasn't unplugged due to location of...
Lads,
I am soon to be doing an EICR on a large working mens club (not being paid in ale). My question is this...There is going to be lots of lamps i cant take out, equiptment still plugged in that i cant find etc etc so im gonna have to test between L-N to E .
When carrying out the IR test at...
Just had a PIR done for a house we were hoping to buy.
The house - victorian/edwardian terrace - has 8 circuits and the wiring is approx 20yrs old according to the PIR.
The report gives the same reading for ALL circuits. Live-Live is 1.01 Mohms and Live-E is 0.17 Mohms. Continuity Polarity...
When testing insulation resistance between line and neutral conductors of a ring circuit you taught to unplug all devices to irradicate false readings. But as double sockets switch the line conductor, am I right in saying you could just switch them all off?
Good Morning all,
When you are doing the combined L&N to earth test on a circuit that contains vulnerable items, do you record the result in all 3 columns ? And do you have to mark the results that you have done the combined test?
Thanks
Hi, first post on here and interested in your views on this. I have just second fixed two 4 bed houses and have some less than perfect results on the insulation resistance tests on most circuits. I'm aware of the minimum requirement in the regs is 1 meg but anything less than off the scale...
Hello,
im reading up on the insulation resistance test at the moment, when doing an insulation test on say a ringmain, and there is switched fused switches with neon, and the switch is OFF, can this still affect the reading? also when doing the L to N, why is it sometimes get really low reading...
Can anyone help me, I've been asked to do an inspection on a property that is on a single 32A ring, including the kitchen. The appliances are all integrated and aren't spurs. Is there a way to perform the test with these appliances in place?
Thanks!
Hi all, be gentle.
I have been asked to renew a cu so did some testing before commiting myself to the job.
The board is fairly old with breakers and main switch. I was doing a ins resistance test on a radial that fed 4 sockets in the kitchen and a two way board in the garage. The cable at the...
Hello, I'm having my old fuseboard replaced, had conflicting advice from two different electricians regarding the minimum insulation resistance levels that existing wiring needs to have in order to pass test - one says it's 5mega ohms, the other says its just 1mega ohm. Can anyone confirm what's...
Hey guys! first real post on the forum so be gentle!
Basically i have installed a new installation feeding a new cinema room, it has 8 mains powered down lighters ( no transformer ) and 2 wall lights, When i tested the installation for IR i got the following results:
L-N - 1000 M ohms
L-E -...
Hi all posted this issue about a month ago and I'm still having problems.
I'm doing an insulation resistance test on a ring circuit,
L-n 500 mega ohms
N-e 500 mega ohms
But L-e is around the 150 mega ohms reading.
I no this is still well within the regulations but it's new cable...
How close have you come to losing the plot on site? lol
I'm normally quite laid back when it comes to working my way through the faults that I have come across in my limited testing time. Today though? Oh my flipping ruddy bollards!!!
I quite easily could have lost it completely ha ha...
Does anyone use shorting leads when doing insulation resistance tests on properties with sensitive equipment? Ie connecting a lead to the live and neutral bar and testing across the earth so no voltage will flow across either therefore not damaging sensitive equipment. I no this would have to go...
Hi Guys,
Could you guys tell me what the lower legal limit is on Insulation resistance for Class 1 appliances?
We raised our own test limit some years ago to >5m ohm due to certain units failing when installed on site and us getting increasing warranty call outs to fix them. We narrowed it...
