I was doing a fuse board update the other day and normally I use duel RCD boards with mcb s but instead I used separate Rcbos due to the customer specifying these. I prefer fitting Rcbos due to just that one circuit is disrupted when there is a fault.
when quoting for the job I carry out a...
Hi,
So I did and insulation resistance test on a lighting circuit today.
L-N 0.23
L-E 34.9
N-E 35.8
The L-N is under the required reading, what do I do?
Do I turn it off completely or advice the customer to get it re wired and leave it on???? Cheers
My house, built in 1960, has mineral insulated cabling and a voltage operated earth leakage circuit breaker. We moved in 7 years ago (don't suppose that is relevant though :) )
Due to some rebuilding work the meter needs to be moved, and in preparation for that my electrician has fitted a new...
Recently my boss and I were changing a fuse board(old to new). It was a shared house and some of the tenants were out at work and their doors locked. Not knowing what they had plugged in, in their rooms we skipped the Insulation Resistance test. Everything else was tested fine. My question to...
Hi
Could anyone please advise how they would complete a MWC if they have tested L/N to E when carrying out insulation resistance test? What should you enter in the boxes provided on the cert?
Many thanks
We've installed a new ring - ring continuity was fine but Insulation resistance while well outside the limits was 50-60 M ohms.Obviously as a new circuit it should be perfect. Took it in half - both halves still at 50-60 M ohms, then again still the same. Thinking we might have a dodgy roll of...
Hi all ran a ring circuit for someone about 6 months ago and when I carried out the insulation test my results were around 250 m ohms for l-n and slightly lower for l-e, anyway didn't think anything of it as we had just plastered all the rooms where the ring circuit went.
Returned to the same...
Hi, ive just received my copy of COP4th Edition.
It says that insualtion resistance test 500V dc might harm I.T. equipment and to use alternative method.
I am using Martindale EasyPat 2100 which cant do 250V dc. Can anyone recommend a portable test instrument for the alternative test methods...
can someone please explain insulation resistance testing to me i have read GN3 and brian scaddans book , i know it is to ensure conductor insullation has not deteriorated or damaged but i read posts on here about how you can use it to find borrowed neutrals and short circuits , and why does...
I have borrowed a multifunctional tester it's calibrated and works everything's good with it. I did a live to earth test and got a reading of .078 megaohms what does this translate too it is not my meter and I don't really do testing too much
I have a Metrel MI3000 MFT. It has given very low insulation resistance readings for a circuit I was testing earlier today (0.001MΩ) between live and earth(!) but the circuit has been working fine and not tripping the MCB (20A, no RCD as it is a pre-17th ed. CU) and I had tested it only a...
Hello Sparkies and Sparkettes.
Carrying out a IR tests I got a reading from the upstaris light (1.1 ohms) but could not get a reading of the downstairs lights, even though all bulbs were out and switches off. I could get no other reading from the other MCB's either e,g Ring, Shower, Cooker etc...
Hi
I am still training and have a question regarding Insulation resistance test.
My question is when doing the test between live and earth at the consumer unit, what happens to the circuit breakers? On or OFF?
Many thanks.
Hi guys,
Fairly recently qualified sparky here starting to do small solo jobs. I'm interested in views on insulation resistance testing on works to be signed off with a Minor Works Certificate. (Sorry this is a long post but I wanted to cover everything.)
One view on this is that you only test...
Evening all. Thought I would finally seek advice of those who know better! This is my first post so be gentle with me!
Just wired a new 3 bed house. All great until I test for ins. res. on final lighting circuit. Result came in at less than 1Mohm- [ L-E = 0.39, LN-E = same ] did all the usual...
insulation resistance test on a EICR/pir
have read in 'unite the union guide to inspect and test'
test carried out with L/N joined to Earth and no need to disconnect loads/vunerable devices
pic1 to test whole insulation, shows link between L/N (incoming) at main switch with supply isolated...
Hi guys,
I would just like to ask if any one could look at my test procedure off the top of my head and give any advice or pointers or whether its too long winded or short. got an exam in 2 weeks so trying to drill it in to this thick skull :)
Many thanks
Safe Isolation has been carried out...
Hi all, Tested a lighting circuit recently and got live to earth dead short and neutral to earth dead short on insulation resistance all loads were still connected there was a fluorescent fitting on the circuit and signs of green goo in switches and ceiling roses and the MCB was not tripping. Do...
Hello All,
I am to install some extra sockets for a customer on a relatively new build.
The insulation resistance test.
I tested at 250VDC between line conductors connected and earth and obtained a reading of 1.10 ohms (not megaohms)
Does this reading seem likely that a piece of equipment...
