Interesting webcast yesterday from NICEIC covering the 3rd Ammendment BS7671, we were aware of nearly all of it.
The one thing that made us sit up though was that in accordance with the regs, they specifically mentioned that the two isolators (and any other switchgear) needed for the PV system...
New build domestic which uses external window blinds. Each blind is supplied with L N permanent then switched L for up and another switched L for down. Blinds self limit at extremes. (Thus 4 live conductors). There are 15 blinds, all running back to central "smart home" gear/relays where they...
Ive
Recently came across a tp&n isolator used as a dp isolator on a single phase supply using just the L1 and L2. Is they anything in the regs that forbids this?
Thanks
I salvaged these from a job rather than skip them. Would need patching up, or suitable trunking arrangement to hide the various holes. Some have only one.
They're going in the bin if not taken!
Have a realisation of my stock and have decided to have a little clear out, before I stick them on flea bay I thought would offer stuff on here,
first item is
20 Wylex rec2s all boxed have been in store for a while waiting for a project that looks like its never gonna happen so they need a new...
As above, can any recommend a decent brand, I've been using 63a & 100a IMO Stag branded ones which have caused me no end of trouble with screw heads shearing off with minimum force, I've changed the guts on 3 of these and now lost total faith in them.
Cheers
I know we all instal fan isolators but is this just a habit or a necessity. Could a double pole switched fcu be used instead, feeding a permanent live and a switched live via a pull coard? Just a thought or have I missed something?
Hi guys,
been to a job today A/C unit not running only installed 5 months ago, I found the outdoor isolator to be full of water but the glands looked ok and also the seals,
would it be normal practice to silicone the back of the unit against the wall to stop any rain running down the back of the...
Hi Guys
Clarification needed
1. Refrigerated Display cabinet in shop has it's condensor outside. I've been asked to provide a supply to an external isolator. QQ. Should there be an isolator inside the shop near the display unit as well?
2. Air Conditioner in home conservatory - condensor...
Due to the location of the Hob and Oven they are some distance apart so there are two isolators fed from the same feed so each items has an isolator within two meters as per regs - is it OK for these to be fed off the same feed ?
I don't see any issues in practice I am just not clear about the...
Normally I fit local isolators adjacent to 3 phase motors to allow for maintenance. I have been informed that as my main control panel is within 8 meters at most from any one motor on the plant I can install a lockable emergency stop push button to kill the control circuit and use this as a...
Hi
Can you use rotary isolators to switch resistive loads on and off on a regular basis (talking 18KW load here)
I personally thought not, that it should be controlled through a contactor but I have seen another installation that is using isolators
thx

Hi, just wondering what is the general consensus on isolators in kitchens for appliances, what do most of you do? what I've been doing in places is putting them together on grid plates with 20amp DP switches and grid fuses if necessary. also these days no one wants to see them and they want them...
It has been a long time since I installed an inverter in a loft. I'm doing one tomorrow and I can't recall whether an AC isolator would be required at the CU. Obviously it would be at the inverter but I seem to recall the rules being relaxed for the isolator at the CU?
Bear with me on this one:
-Incoming DNO supply (3 phase) comes into a cabinet which is fed out to two distribution boards in separate (unmanned) buildings
-Our "customer" wants a cubicle next to this (there is no more room in existing one) with 2 isolators, one for each circuit, so they can...
Following on from a recent thread. My head started to hurt after someone posted (and I can't find the thread now, so I'll just have to quote what I copied, credits to whoever wrote this.).
Being a Electrical Trainee I couldn't quite get me head around that so, as a picture is worth a thousand words, I drew it...
