The guy that works for me doing some of the electrical bits connected one of the new IMO isolators the other day. When I checked on commisioning the polarity was wrong. rather than connecting in a stright line through the isolator the connection goes accross, so the top left input is continuous...
I bought some DC isolators that looked wrong yesterday, wrong in at first the switch was red and yellow not the typical Grey for DC.
Also no internal links and the unit clearly stated AC23, looked just like a 4 pole AC islator.
Guy promised me it was OK but I swapped anyway. Replacements just...
My "main switch" is an isolator fitted in the meter cupboard by the DNO. The installation is 10 years old. This appears to be single pole. Maybe it does isolate both poles but it is very small. Is this right?
Thanks PP
Hi all,
I have a quick query, looking for a bit a assistance.
I am looking assist with the install of a 50kW PV system.
On the AC side we have a 3ph fuseboard with an 80A switch disconnector. This feeds a 35mm cable to the switchroom, located approx 50m away.
The RCD protection and circuit...
I have around 40 double pole 100a isolators, various used mcb's, earth straps, earth blockes, single and double 100a blocks, lots of new insulated screwdrivers, 2 brandnew ck tool bags, irwin saw, cable croppers, test lamps with proving units x 2, martindales, socket and see impedance and...
Hi Folks.
Do all DBs require isolators?, is there a regulation for this?
the reason i'm asking: I'm testing a theatre and they have a series of maintained boards dotted around the theatre supplying lights and sockets. Its a dual supply system, mains and generator. All the boards are the old...
What is the maximum allowed distance the fuse box, meters and isolators can be from the heads (the points at which the cables come in from the electricity board to the building)? I have some points which come into a basement flat but I'd rather have the isolators etc moved into a communal...
Doing a load of work in a ground floor flat (will post some pics as cannot believe what people will do) lady upstairs asks me to have a look at her built in fridge as it had stopped working. The house was converted just over 1 year ago. I could not find any way of turning off the power anywhere...
Hello All,
I have won a contract for installing motion sensors in to an office building.
I have to carry out all the works during office hours and I am unable to isolate the supply of the necessary circuits at the consumer unit (there are individual isolators to isolate sections of...
Proposed Install
Inverters are sunny boy SMC 9000 TLS-20
Each inverter has three strings of 14 230w = 126 modules
The system is around 28KW
G59 Protection is required.
I was thinking of wiring each seperate array with the 3 strings in a junction box in paralell to each inverter so only one dc...
Hi
Is it mandatory to have a seperate d/c isolator per string or can you rely on the ess isolator built into SMA inverters? I have seen several installations where d/c isolators are used on the same inverter where just the ess switch is used on others.

Hi all,
I'm sure this has been asked before and I've had a look on the forum but can't seem to find an answer.
I'm just designing a 9.66kWp system over 3 phases. 3 x 3.22kWp with 3 sunny boy invertors which will keep it under G 83/1. 3 ac and dc isolators next to invertors and I will run 3...
Installing on 3phase 4 strings of 10 pnls d/c isolator to each string, with sring fuses, how many a.c islators would i need, would i just need the normal two one at invertor and one at c/unit with the meter.
many thanks for anybodys help OJ
can anybody help
i am fitting 9.8kwts solar pv i need to know what size d/c isolators i req and how many it's been put on a 3phase supply and in 4 strings of 10 panels.cheers oj
Could someone help me clear something up please? On the NICEIC training - don't groan, I know it was rubbish - we were told to use to ac isolators one either side of the generation meter but when I look at kits they always have just one isolator in them. So should it be one or two?????
evening all
a customer has asked me to prepare 2 new sub mains outside in enclosures where they will be fitting 2 new electric meters.
i would like to know whether i need to fit 2 external boxes for each meter and isolators or if i could fix them all into 1 big box.
also on the day edf...
Basically, I have two circuits (one for cooker and one for hob) and am putting in a separate isolator for each.
Can you get a two gang isolator or do you have to put two one gangs in??
Hi all..
One i have been pondering for a lil while....
My sister has just bought a house, and two things have caught my attention.
A) The first is that they have an electric fire screwed to the wall, so a permanent fixture but is connected to a 13amp socket so can be unplugged.
Is this...
