Evening.....just a bit of advice please?
Earth present on all sockets and lighting fitting terminals along with all light switch boxes......apart from one light fitting..although there is an earth cable running to it. Is it order to run a 4mm earthing cable from the fitting and cable and tap...
I have just purchased a transformer for some under cupboard strip LED's. The unit is CE marked. The ELV side of the transformer has 2 short flexes coming out of it with a CSA of 0.75mm². I was going to just extend these out to the 2 strips of LED lighting I am installing but after reading...
Im relatively freshly qualified and registered so still coming up against new challenges.
I have a client who has requested a rewire but they also want minimum damage to flooring etc. Hopefully loft access means I can get to first floor lighting cables but ground floor ceiling lighting could...
Hi all,
Just a quick question if I may
I'm building mock circuits on an old desk to get a practical element to the theory I am studying (connected via 3 amp plug with RCD protection on supply)
I have been watching John Ward on YT ( John Ward - https://www.youtube.com/user/jjward ) and find...
I'm hoping to get a bit of expert advice on a problem I have with a friend's wiring. Initially I was asked to take a look at a three-bulb light fitting that was regularly blowing bulbs. I took the fitting down from the ceiling to check for loose wires and found that several came out from the...
Hi everyone, still training so please bear with me.
What is the correct way to carry out an RCD test on a lighting circuit protected by a BS61009 Type B RCBO?
I've looked in the regs, OSG and all of my course material but still no actual definitive answer so thought I'd ask here.
The reason...
Morning. A friend and I have been carrying out some EICRs on properties in our area. Recently, my mate has come across two houses in which the lighting circuits do not have any earthing at all. They have been run in twin and earth but the earths have all been snipped off at lighting points...
Hi everyone. I'm looking for advise on how to test IR on commercial lighting. There's so many lights on 1 circuit , do I have to take out all the lamps in all the lights to perform the test or can I simply test between LN -E ?
Even though I have spent lots of time testing domestic installs and...
For selecting the correct cable size how do I determine the cable length in a loop in lighting circuit? Will it be the distance from the consumer unit to the final ceiling rose? Do I have to take into account the cables running from each ceiling rose to the light switch? I have attached a...
Hi,
After a bit of advice. I have just read a EICR from another electrician. (C2) 20A circuit (2.5mm) serving 1 x socket, 1 x combi-boiler & 2 batten lampholders. He states the lights should be fused down, I can't see why they are supplied via 2.5 T&E.
Cheers
Hi all. New to the forum so please go easy.
I am just about to start wiring a new kitchen under a building notice. Being an industrial electrician by trade I am not overly familiar with domestic lighting circuits and the normal setup when using twin/3 core cables. Could somebody please take a...
Sorry if this a very basic question
But under your current electrical regulations are 12volt circuit exempt ?
I have a 230volt socket outlet circuit in my garden tested and approved
I wish to install garden lighting ..the whole of which is plug and play
I plug the transformer into the...
Hi guys,
Whilst carrying out an ECR yesterday I was doing an r1r2 test on a lighting circuit (downlights) in a new extension and noticed that I was getting 15v L-N and 15v L-E with the circuit de-energised.
To cut a long story short after some investigation, I noticed that the 15v was coming...
Hi folks,
so here was a new one I came across today. Was sent to put in a new bathroom fan today to an old Barrats house. Opened up the switch at the bathroom door to have a look - no neutrals. Ok I thought, neutrals obviously looped at the ceiling roses. Wanting to test the circuit first, I...
Evening all. I have been asked to quote a landlord for a replacement bathroom light as the old ones bayonet fitting was broken, new pull cord as it was one from 1702 which had finally given up and replace the hallway light fitting as it was hanging off the ceiling.
On inspection there are no...
Looking for a bit of advice. Not a qualified electritian, but have a fairly competent DIY ability.
I'm fitting a new kitchen in our house, and I'm putting LED strips under the cabinets and plinths.
I would like to be able to control these with a switch on the wall, alongside the main room...
I've got a lighting circuit wired in 1.5mm T&E on a 6 amp MCB. There are some lights that I'd like to add on to this circuit, controlled by an existing switch. Due to the position of these lights, the most aesthetically pleasing way to install these lights would be to run cable to the new lights...
I currently have the bathroom light wired as per photo via a junction box. I'm needing to add an extractor fan to the bathroom lighting circuit. The fan has three connection points... Constant live, switched live and neutral. I know it needs to go through a fan switch on/off. How do I wire it...
Evening all,
I have been asked by my customer to set up bedroom lighting in his extension, and I can't seem to get my head round it.
I think he has been to hotel and got the idea from there as thats where ive seen it done.
He wants a bedside table lamp, each side of the bed with a local...
