*Emergency Lighting*
I know this has already been discussed recently on a similar thread but I just thought that it might be a good idea to create a poll and see what the general consensus is.
I personally use black as the permanent live and brown as the switched but I recently had a debate...
hi gents . I’m currently surveying a property prior to remodelling it... it was a department store and it’s been redeveloped at least once but no one has pulled out the old wiring,
I want to mark up any of the major 415 3 phase that is defiantly live ina simple way so we can focus on tracking...
This unit is running two showers. Unit was smoking while one shower was running, never tripped the safety switch. Power to one shower is cut off while the other is in use. Is it ok just to change out the relay that had burned? I'm not an electrician but one will be doing the work. The house is...
I was called by the client to do final live test & issue EIC. Not so straight forward, not all cable chases have been plastered and a couple of areas where boarding has still to be completed. So annoying, anybody else come across this?
Hi there,
I have this double switch installed in my conservatory. The switch on the left controls my external security light and the one on the right controls 3 spotlights on the wall inside the conservatory. The wire is partially chased into the wall before it goes into the trunking.
We never...
Hi all,
I've had a complete rewire in my house as part of a renovation. I've noticed two things that I wonder if they are in line with regs:
1) the electrician has not put the little bit of brown tape over the blue or black wires that are switched live. Is the brown tape just best practice or...
Hi everyone
There are 2 light fittings to change in the living room I've changed the one at the back that was just twin and earth
These light closest to the. Switch has two brown and 2 blue Can I put these in together in each block for the New fitting
So I fitted a new metal faceplate switch on the wall socket for my cooker. All went well. As I'm also tiling I took it off a few days later, and noted some of the live wire insulation rubbed off presumably by me screwing the screws in when assembling. I have read of this before, first time hrs...
Afternoon all, new on here and hoping someone maybe able to offer a bit of advice?
I am flooring the loft at the moment in the loft, and there is a length of wire (grey 3 core) that has just been taped off and taped to the rafters. The wire is live (240v) but isolating the MCB for upstairs...
Well it is a first for me!
Sent one of the lads out this morning to connect a couple of welfare cabins on a site in the centre of the village where our office is , and he phoned up saying that all we have is a live service cable just sitting in the box !?
This is the photo I received
hey, I’m a gas safe plumber and today I came across a programmer wired backwards basically, the live in and live out mixed up yet the boiler was still functioning without issue, calling for heat as should.
Anyone care to educate me on the issue with the above or does it not really matter?
has anyone any experience of this. The boiler is 14 years old and has only just gone wrong. when the boiler engineer looked at it he found there was 240v between the neutral and earth inside the boiler unit.
New to this so be kind.
Run a new circuit in today gone to do R1+R2 on the circuit me at the end of line and the other spark putting the link in at DB. Tester starts bleeping voltage so at first I thought he’d turned the circuit on but he hadn’t. On further investigation I’ve found that from the...
I know the thread title sounds bad but hear me out. I have wired an intermediate switch set up with feed at one switch, switch wire at another and twin and earth as my strappers between to an intermediate switch. My customer wishes to use lightwave switches for the three posistions mentioned...
Hi newbie here. Actually I'm a chartered electronics engineer but am often mystified by the dark magic of domestic wiring!
I have a kitchen counter fed by a live feed which comes up through a quarry tiled floor. I want to move the counter and disconnect that feed. I obviously don't want some...
hi everybody.
My boiler in the caravan keeps coming up with low voltage warning which states that potentially the supply is faulty. I got a plumber out to check boiler and he did a test on the earth to live and got 240v he then tested earth to neutral and got 240v. He said i need to get an...
Hi guys
Just wanted some help in finding out the exact reason in why we test Live Neutral to Earth in lighting circuits.
I understand it in case any loads are still connected and to not damage sensitive equipment but why does it damage it?
Would testing Live- Neutral on 230v still damage it...
Had an email about this screwfix live show this weekend in Farnborough.
Has anybody been and is it worth going?
These things used to be great as you'd get loads of freebies all they seem to offer now is 10% in screwfix which you get if you ask anyway on a big order and a bag of random free bits...
Hi, im having issues with my hive multizone and getting power to my upstairs receiver. I have 2 zones, upstairs and downstairs. I can only get power to my upstairs receiver when my downstairs heating is on. I have installed a loop wire between live and common in my receiver upstairs but...
Just been discussing this story, apparently some metal play equipment was giving people a shock, close to overhead powerlines and a transformer...
a small mention of dry condition, wondering on the cause? could it have been acting as a sort of rod and picking up some sort of fault via earth?
Or...
