when confirming auto disconnect of the supply it is necessary to determine the external earth fault loop impendance of the system. What three methods can this be achieved?
So the external earth what loop impendance is the supply companies end is that right?
Just done a test on a TT system, and got 150ohms on the rod.But got 0.33 on the cooker circuit.
Am i right in thinking the Zs readings are such due the main bonds bringing the resistances down, never had this before
Does anyone have a problem with their Fluke 156X testers when doing Loop Impedance Testing ?
Most of the earth systems I come across are TT and my meter will on the odd occasion show >2000 ohms and then on a repeated try I get the correct answer.
I think the problem gets worst when the L-N...
I replaced a fuse box last week and when i did the earth loop on the circuits it came up with around 114-ohms yet the ZE was only 0.75-ohm can anyone explain this
Hi guys,
struggling to work this question out and don't seem to be getting a correct answer no matter what cable conductor size i use.
Q. A 230V 14kW domestic electrical cooker, installed in a house is to be supplied by a 15m run of PVC insulated and sheathed cable, clipped to a surface. The...
Brand new , never used Amecal ELI / PSC testers for sale.
Comes with carry case , probe leads , plug top lead , instructions and purchase receipt.
No calibration cert but in perfect working order ( as shown in pics below )
£90 inc P&P.
Thanks for looking.
Recently got a call from a friend who, whilst having annual boiler check, was informed that the earth loop reading was high. So I said I would have a look. The installation is TT so I had a look for earth rod and found that the earth wire ( old 2.5mm imperial equivalent) had been chewed through...
Hi,
Just a quick question regarding lighting circuits. I believe some people are wiring loop in circuits with junction boxes in the void rather than terminating at the lamp fitting. Seems a pretty good idea with regards to less connections at the light fitting. However my understanding of the...
want to get a cheap earth loop tester for work, just something to leave in toolbox I have one of those Kewtech socket testers with earth loop lights on it but want something that actually gives a reading, will be using my mft for main tests this is just to keep an eye on things with in between...
Hope someone can help, I am an industrial biased electrician & a friend has asked me to check an outside tap on one of his houses where the tennant keeps getting a belt off the tap, the loop test at the board shown up 17.8ohms & was registered as dangerous on the tester (A Metrel tester)...
The...
hi guys,
Just wanted some help with some course work for college. Any help is greatly apprecitaed.
Why should a low value earth fault impedance should be achieved for all circuts?
thanks
I fitted a new circuit, upon testing, the EFLI was 1.29 ohms on a TN-S system.I rang up the DNO for advice, and was told that is an emergency, we'll be there within 2 hours. There was no point me hanging around, so I went to my next job. I caught up with the houseowner today, and asked what...
Got called out yesterday to a blown BS88 fuse on a ring circuit.
The customer reported a big bang when plugging something into a socket.
The result was the cheap socket was faulty.
Anyhow whilst I was there (I did not really like the quality of the install) so I did a full test on the ring...
Hi,
Our main fuse from the power distributor blew and Western Power attended and replaced. During this visit they established that their was a problem with reverse polarity and that when the RCD was installed the tails in the grey twin cable were connected red-black in the top of the consumer...
Hi Guys,
The 17th edition gives you a table of circuit breakers and their maximum allowed Zs, however as the 17th edition does not cover "machinery", we have just started working with BS EN 60204-1 "Safety of machinery - Electrical equipment of machines - Part 1 General requirements", and this...
