Hello :)
I'm confused about EFLI which I am guessing should be relatively straight-forward.
I can't get my tired brain to figure out how to calculate the value for EFLI on system-side circuits?
eg:
what should the actual calculated value be for a 40A circuit, and how do I get that figure...
Can someone help me find a particular type of earth loop meter that I used to use years ago. It was the type that had a earth wander lead and probe. You plug in the meter to a socket, then touch the probe to the casing of the fixed appliance, you get an ELI reading
I'm no longer a part P...
Hi guys,
Was wondering if anyone could shed any light on why I would be getting >2000 ohms on my loop tests, on every circuit? I got .26 on the incoming reading, went to do the test on the cooker circuit and >2000, thought I'd try back at the consumer on the incoming and >2000 again, I'm using...
Hi, I don't know if anyone can help with this. A customer called me out saying that a British Gas boiler service had highlighted a socket showing >2000 on the EFLI test. I went to look and got 1.12 on one side of the (two gang) socket and >2000 on the other. I assumed it was a dodgy socket and...
I often come across bathroom lights or similar with the loop in/out connections brought into the light enclosure and connected using choc blocks (or in some cases just twisted and taped!). I rarely see heat resistant sleeving used, although I sometimes do.
My question is, to be fully compliant...
Hi. I've been trying to change an overhead light and run into some confusion regards the wiring and I wondered if someone could advise please.
I've currently got over my confusion by doing a like for like swap of the pendant, wiring the new light into the old ceiling rose terminals. I would...
Hi to all,
This is my first post, I thought I aught to contribute as I often dip in for the wealth of information and interesting debate, please excuse me if this is in the wrong place or already been done.
I had a hour or 2 spare so with a handfull of bits from the van I've put together a...
Had a strange one today, would appreciate folks take on it. I'm probably missing something obvious!!
Installing some downlights via metal dimmer switch.
Earth loop impedance was 50 ohms at last light!, at switch it was about 1.5 ohms. Dimmer fully up, voltage at light around 230 . Bypass...
Was out doing some defect repairs on a system with a few high earth loop readings. I had previously been on site and tested the circuits with the high readings. For one of the circuits I had a reading of 1.28 ohms for a C50 t/p mcb it was rather high. So the idea was to remove the mcb and...
Hi.....first of all I'd like to say thank you for allowing me to join the forum.....I'm a third year student and have giving a task of drawing a EARTH FAULTLOOP PATH FOR A COOKER CIRCUIT in a house. I'm stuck on the cooker circuit part....please please help. Cheers Mike
Morning all,
Fitting an automatic swing gate with induction loop tomorrow (with my uncle). My uncle knows what he's doing but this would be a first for me, just doing a bit of research today so I at least know what I'm looking at tomorrow.
The device is by Roger although I couldn't tell you...

Hello all,
I am studying to be an electrician but outside of the classroom I have little experience.
A friend has bought a house and during the buying process had an eicr with unsatisfactory result.
Reading the report it shows the ring and shower circuit to have high earth loop impedance.
I...
Iv been given the scenario:
6 circuit earth fault loop impedance values were recorded. Each circuit has type B cb.
referring to the maximum values, show by calculation if these values are acceptable.
so I can't do zs =ze+R1/R2 because they've not provided me with ze.
doing some research it...
Here we have a compete Megger 320 kit including all cables.
Kit is in excellent working condition and was regularly calibrated and checked up until June last year when the calibration expired. I've not shopped around for calibration quotes but I paid from £70 to 90. .
Rather than the...
Hi there Guys
I am new to the UK and have just a quick question. When your earth loop reading I too high in the UK, can you proceed to do an earth/neutral bond before the consumer main switch or do you have to contact the applicable power utility company?
