Hoping the wealth of knowledge can shed some light on this..............Have fitted 6 sets of "cable track lights" each set consists of 2x 5m cables spanned parallel across the ceiling with 5x 35w fittings screwed to cable piercing the insulation to obtain L-N. Each set has a transformer with...
Evening Guys, got a house to do an EICR on and there is no access to the 3 plating/transformers on 12V downlights in 4 different rooms. Everything looks nice and pretty and shiny but its all been boxed in. the cut out diameters are to small to pull the transformers down so am unable to take any...
Hi all,
I have recently moved house and discovered a double socket in the living room doesn't seem to work.
I have taken the faceplate off the wall and tested the cables with a multimeter and get a reading around 190 volts, but if I plug a lamp in and turn it on it goes down to around 160...
Hi
I'm looking for some advice on low voltage heaters I have a 390w heater that runs of 24v dc but the transformer seems really big are these types of heaters as energy efficient as they claim to be?
cheers
Hi, could anybody please advise of any reason a Low Voltage track light, with 4 bulbs should only be working intermittently. This is controlled by a standard one way switch (not dimmer) and I'm assuming the fault is with the contacts for the bulbs. I was wondering if this could be a transformer...
Hi All
After fitting a low voltage fan to an existing lighting circuit, does a test have to be carried out on the whole circuit or just the extra part installed. Secondly does it have to be a eic or is a minor works acceptable as it is an addition to an existing circuit.
Thanks all
Hi,
I'm replacing low voltage halogen with MR11 and MR16 LED bulbs. AC supply would be simplest because of existing wiring, but I'm concerned about LED flicker:

I was recently asked to check some faults at an older persons community housing complex.
Passive RCD sockets had locked out and were in fact damaged and a high number of fluorescent light starters were also damaged.
When I was called out I passed a gang of workers from the local electricity...
Was doing a Ze at a 3 phase db. At yellow phase theres only a low voltage present from indication by test lamps. Back at the Isolator from the mains incoming getting full voltage. any help on whats causing the low voltage at db?
I have recently qualified and am coming towards testing a re-wire. I have fitted 30 low voltage downlighters with transformers. Apart from removing the bulbs do I need to do anything else before pumping 500volts through the circuits. ie will 500volts damage the transformers or are they removed...
Good morning chaps,
I stumbled upon this forum and seems to be a good source of experts. I'm not an electrician so hope i'm not breaking any rules by posting here.
We have a house full of low voltage MR16 halogen bulbs. I wanted to slowly change the ones in my kitchen and hall to LED as the...
I have checked the core cutter I have been issued and it has a 4.5inch core bit. The fan I am putting in is 4in (100mm) does it matter if its slightly bigger hole, as the fan square itself will still be big enough to hide this.
Also trying to get my head around why I need to get a permanent...
Hi, I've been called in to finish work started by a Part P builder. After fixing numerous problems I'm left with one. Its a loft conversion and has 9 fire rated downlights. the problem is that he has 3 interlinked JB's that arent accessible and all lights are spurred off of these. I only ever...
Greetings.
Apologies if this is a stupid question.
Say you wanted to install some garden lights and you decided on 12 Volt lighting because there were kids around etc.
Now say you wanted to dim them and you wanted a dimmer that was close to the lights IE outside.
Would it be possible to dim...
Hi, anyone have any experince of these? I understand that a Type C breaker may be best? I've been asked to install a system of 5 x 50w on a 300va transformer witha run of approx 10m from the board to the transformer.
Any recommendations on make, size & type of breaker etc?
Regards
How come Ohms law doesn't apply when talking about low voltage downlights. i.e 50w divided by 12V = 4.16A so thats obviously wrong. I think Im getting a bit confused.
Hi guys,
I've got a bit of a dilemma. Yesterday I went to a customers house and changed all of the properties grid switches to mk.
Now the problem is, the guy has low voltage track wire light fittings in every room, and he has brought mk dimmer grid switches to control these.
I connected one...
Hi Guys,
Be aware!
Low voltage halogen lamps set to be banned from next year | Lux Magazine
IRC lamps are not a straight replacement for the normal MR16 lamps as they 'burn' hotter (Upto 400 Deg C) and cause problems with the paint and bezels (Paint bonding causing the bezels to lock to the...
