Hello.
I’ve recently bought a house. I’ve not been living in it whilst I’ve been decorating today I moved in. All of the upstairs lighting is on one circuit. And has previously had down-lights installed in each room. Now I’ve just turned the lights off and noticed that they are still glowing...
Came accross a remedial whilst at work where a previous engineer had raised a job to investigate poss borrowed neutrals on a lighting db which sits next to a general power db both fed from same rising busbar with same tap off supply characteristics i decided to isolate each individual circuit...
Hello everyone ?
It's totally confusing for me. It is my understanding that the neutral and the ground busbars should be connected at the main distribution board (schematic attached), but not at the auxiliary or sub panel. But why?
I know that if I connect them in sub panel the current from...
When replacing a light housing, I found the RCCB was somehow tripped. I first used a pen tester to check the wires and found them normal (no voltage). I then used a multimeter to test again. Here are the results:
L-N 7.4 v
L-E 6.8 v
N-E 3 V
After the RCCB was tripped, the readings were zero...
I have three switches. They each control two to three lights.
switch A: A1, A2, A3 (3 lights)
switch B: B1, B2, B3 (3 lights)
switch C: C1, C2 (2 lights)
The other day, I was working on A2 and got a shock while A was off. I was puzzled. I then disconnected all six wires (2 each of live...
I was wiring up an IP65 5ft LED batten today, straight swap for a non-LED version.
The light was an emergency and worked off a sensor, no switch.
The emergency was wired through the test switch.
In the light fitting, there were 4 wires - brown switch live, black live, neutral and earth.
As i...
I'm connecting three phase step down auto transformer. 400V input and 230V output. It's to supply a piece of equipment brought over from America and the load won't be balanced.
My question is, is the star point common for both the line and load side neutral connections? I'm leaning towards yes...
just thought i would share this i posted about in a previous thread.
1st and 2nd pic- red and white wires going into landing light (connected to downstairs circuit)
3rd and 4th pic- red wire going down, white wire going into the junction box for the upstairs lighting circuit connecting to...
im figuring out my upstairs lighting circuitsto tidy it up and get rid of the old JB's the upstairs lighting circuit is a mish mash of 1.5 and 2.5mm2 cable mostly 2.5mm2 which is annoying as 2.5 wont fit into the down light push fits i have.
but the white wire is confusing me a bit
1st pic...
Hi guys. Possibly a bit amateur sounding of me. I’m second fixing some flats (that someone else first fixed - pain in the 4rse I know). I’ve come to fit the Fuseboards for each flat, and there’s a 25mm armoured single (brown) been pulled to each fuseboard, I’m baffled as to why I’ve not got a 3...
Lawnmower Generator AC to DC sharing common ground / neutral???
Question is general because I am trying understand fundamentals. I will give specifics as to what I am trying to do so you can understand. I am adding a charging system and electric start to an engine that never had one. I...
I do general maintenance at a summer camp that includes a campground. One of our campsite electric posts is having a problem. The GFCI is tripped and will not reset. I tried a new GFCI outlet and same result. I'm also getting about 2.6v from neutral to ground, when measured at the outlet and at...
Hi,
I have what seems an unusual situation, and two electricians I've consulted say "I've never seen that before".
An outbuilding put up in the early 90's. They re-used an old 60 amp double pull 4 fuse panel. There is a 3 wire underground service line with two insulated hot aluminum stranded...
Hi guys.
im second fixing someone else’s first fix and it’s been wired different to how I’d do it.
Got a two way in the lounge, at first switch I’ve just got a feed in & out and strappers. Second switch I’ve got strappers and switch. I’m going to use the grey from the strappers as my neutral...
Hi, looking at installing a sub main down to a field to supply caravan hook up points. the supplier has stated they are installing 2 x 100 amp split phase 180 degrees apart. not worked on 460v/480v split phase - my question is how do i go about sizing the neutral. i plan to run a steel wire...
Hi, I have an old style fusebox and planning to replace (via electrician) with a modern one (wiring was uprgaded by previous owner) and I noticed when removing a spur line to the outside that was not going to pass muster that my multimeter was showing that earth and neutral were connected. I...
Hi. Turned power off to change a socket front. Turned off at breaker not the RCD or mains. Checked that socket was dead got these readings Line to Neutral 0 volts , live earth 30 volts , neutral earth 30 volts. This is an old French house on a 3 phase supply Split at consumer unit and then each...
Typically the EICR I fitted in this afternoon because I'd hoped it would be fairly simple (new build home, 2007), turned out to be the only recent one that's thrown up a major FI.
Downstairs lighting circuit, 1mm T&E, currently on a 6A MCB
R1+R2 fine, insulation test L&N -> E an immediate...
Hi
What’s the principle .
with a neutral not connected to the neutral bar will be 230v basically a line.
But when neutral is connected to neutral bar there is 0v.
Neutral and earth are connected further on with the same potential but I still don’t understand how the neutral bar and even the...
