Just want to check I've got his correct.... have a property with peak & off-peak DB.
The tails from both DBs peak & off-peak go into the same henley blocks.
Then looks like off-peak DB supply is run through a contractor, which I assume is controlled via time clock in the meter...
Hi,
Does adaptor burn while off ?
Why I am asking this question is that one customer mentioned in his review his extension cord( spike guard or adaptor) had got burnt when adaptor main switch was off.
I am currently on the Octopus Go tariff with 7.5p kwh 12.30am to 4.30am and then 30p kwh during the day.I use this tariff to charge my plugin hybrid very cheaply.
I have an old but usable 80ah car battery,a 150 watt dc to ac inverter and a 10 watt LED lamp.
I have it set up to charge the battery...
Hi,
No electrician background here, so novice question!
I have a new (<6 months) plug socket that whenever I switch it OFF it trips the RCD on the fuse box.
I’d previously had an issue with the RCD and ‘socket’ switch tripping (all sockets are on one switch on the fuse box) which was traced to...
Hi, my question is. If I have an old wylex consumer unit with NB type 2 breakers (not 60898). Or let's say any CU for that matter. If it's protected by a 30ma RCD, will that pass the cert?. Or for example will the use of old mcbs not be up to standard. Thanks
I've been asked to fit a Growatt spf 5000 es inverter which will have batteries (not sure what yet) and tied to the 230v domestic mains supply. Although I'm qualified to fit pv systems, I've never actually fitted any battery systems so not sure how they work in relation to connecting to the...
Hi guys got a question to ask:
In Scotland for reference.
My mate recently bought a house and he is wanting me to do an EICR, new Consumer Unit, new shower and extra sockets. I have been qualified for almost 3 years, however I am not approved. My question is can I carry out this work myself...
Hi. Can anyone offer a bit of advice please.
I've got a customer who wants needs an upgrade to their consumer units. It is a bungalow that has a 3 phase supply. Each phase has a separate consumer unit. Blue and Yellow are being used for heating, and the Red is general domestic power and lighting...
I have some lights flickering in the house. I was told tightening the circuit breaker wires in the electrical boxes might help eliminate the flickering. Is it possible to tighten the wires without having to turn off power to the house.
Thanks
Hi,
I have just taken over a workspace in London.
I have to pay the electricity so want to reduce it.
In the breaker box in the workspace, there is one breaker labelled 'water heater' and one labelled 'storage heater'. I dont need hot water or heating, so i switched the lever to down position...
What is everyone's opinion on taking a combi boiler supply off the lighting circuit? I doubt the boiler would pull more than 300 watts and with all the led lamps being used on the lighting circuit,I doubt it would come to more than a couple of hundred watts.A 3 amp fuse in the boiler spur would...
Hi all, is it acceptable or was it in previous regs if not anymore? To take the gas bond straight off the TNS connection shared with main Earth? See pic.
Thanks

Am I certified to sign off/do certs for a fuse board if I've completed my Level 2 and level 3 city and guilds (2365) electrical installation?
(have not done the regs yet or testing & inspection or the NVQ)
Hi,
Any suggestions what this black cable is coming off the supply's incoming cable? Its a TN-S system, I thought it could be the earth conductor but the cable is black not green/yellow, plus it looks much smaller than 10mm2 plus there is already an earthing conductor coming off the sheath...
Just hoping to pick someones brain here:
Customer has an existing off grid PV install to a barn
He is now building a house on the site (this will include a fast EV charge point)
He has a 3 phase grid supply available, with the intention of running/ exporting the barn on one phase. the house on...
After some scoundrels robbed all my stuff I have had to get a new voltage tester. Two in fact. A fluke t150 and a a fluke t110. But unlike the ones I had these don't seem to have the ability to turn off the annoying bleeper. I have tried holding the light button for two seconds but it's no good...

I am looking for a timer which when it receives a signal just comes on for 30 seconds to a minute and then shuts off
I am not looking for a 7 day programable timer just one that will come on when...
Evening all.
Is there a stigma of signing off someone else’s work?
If you came out and tested and all was ok…are you happy to sign off?
Anyone who strictly would not entertain this?
I don’t have the test and inspect certs so am unable to do this but don’t want to run into a problem once...
