We've recently brought a new build house and it's come with an AEG induction hob. We quickly realised there wasn't enough power to heat more than 2 pans at once. Rather pointless given its a 4 ring hob and slightly challenging cooking xmas dinner!
We've had Bellway out and they explained its a...
I've mislaid my 13Amp plug check card from Electrical Safety First, and they aren't sending out replacements at the minute. Can anyone help? (I'm obviously happy to pay!).
Hello, I'm trying to find this RED PLUG, but there are MANY styles out there so I cannot identify by name such as one model that is called an XT-90 (THIS IS NOT THAT). There are so many I think I'll never find it scrolling through pictures. Can any electricians identify it so I can buy one...
I have 2 Google Nest Outdoor cameras that I’d like to mount front and back under the eaves and power from the loft. Their power details:
“Plugs into a standard household power outlet
AC adapter input: 100–240V AC, 50/60Hz, 0.2AAC
adapter output: 5V DC, 1.4A”
This house is a rental, so no...
Hello!
My partner and I have recently moved into a home, and I've just noticed there is a plug underneath the towel rail in the cupboard under the stairs (photo here https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FGakJWLf5a_XiJy879wBySC0EMd4jmD-/view)
We haven't been using the towel rail much as its a bit of...
I recently had some landscape lighting put in and wanted to hook up the transformers to a smart plug so I can control them with my phone and have them on a timer etc. Currently, as setup by the electrician, the two transformers are in a double adapter plugged into a normal wall socket and it...
Hi All,
I would be extremely grateful for advice/comments on the following :
My old built-under hard-wired oven died and due to space constraints I have only found 1 option to replace it :

Hi
When we had the electrics installed for our new kitchen (few months back) we were advised by the electrician at the time to just add a standard plug to the wire of the hob extractor fan (once it was installed).
I have finally come to do this, but would like confirmation that it is safe and...

I work for a charity (Besom) that gets equipment that needs to be PATted. A lot of these come with 5 amp fuses. Please do the regulations
allow you to use 5 amp fuses, or are you supposed to change them to 3 amp? Most of these devices are low power & they will run perfectly
well on a 3 amp...
My understanding is that metal cabinet needs to be grounded to the common or neutral 3 wire.
Questions:
When is 3 wire required and when 2?
Why are some plastic cabinets polarized 2 wire or 3 wire?
Why is this metal cabinet space heater that im try to fix, why its 2 wire and neither is...
Hi,
I've just moved into a property in the UK, only to find this non-standard plug socket.
I was wondering if someone would advise me of what type of socket this is, also if there's an adaptor to convert it to the usual UK socket type?
TIA for any advice.

Hi,
I replaced a plug socket today for the first time. When putting the live/neutral/earth wires in the socket, I noticed that the wires are not fully insulated where they come out of the wall. There is a small exposed piece of wiring which looks like it previously had masking tape around it...
I stupidly cut a melted plug off a 10A plug in charger today as is was completely melted only to find it has six wires in it, I take it they are current sensors so it is now game over
Klik plugs are rated at 6 amp with 075mm flex.
But I have seen them used on 10 amp breakers in shops and the like with the plug in Rose's and with the Marshallling boxs?
How does that work if the plug is only 6 amp
Is it due to the flex length being so short or something else?
So I'm based in the UK and I have bought a lava lamp that came with a US plug. After blowing the light bulb (which was also US and was a pain to find and replace online), I clipped off the plug and wired in a UK plug instead of using the travel adaptor. Now it just won't work/ turn on.
On the...
I've just seen the launch announcement about the new Quickwire T-Connector Plug & Socket in Professional Electrician & Installer Magazine. See here:

I'm a bit disappointed that they have chosen to release this product ahead of a 32A...
