So I had a tricky little task today. 2 gang 1 way switch in a small office entrance. Controls 2 lights in this area. Customer wanted a sensor to replace the switch so both lights come on when triggered.
Took the switch off and blimey nothing was identifiable. Blues, blacks, reds, browns...
Carrying out some EICR on a commercial/industrial site.
Previous records state the structural steel is bonded, and visually I can see 4x 25mm Earth wires leaving the main earth bar, I cannot trace the one going to the steel , though I suspect one of these does.
How do I prove this? Is it a case...
Hi guys just wondered how strict assessors are on the use of proving units. I'd rather save the £60 but if need be will purchase one. Anyone recently had assesment with stroma who didn't use one?? Thanks
All,
Good morning to you. Just looking to see what proving unit to buy; do I go for big bulky Kewtech or pocket sized fluke PRV240.
Any suggestions etc, greatly received.
TESTED: Stroma Socket & See - Professional Electrician
Anyone seen, used or heard of the tester and proving unit advertised in the PE Magazine? Not seen it yet
Hi Guys

There appears to be anecdotal evidence from recent threads and the interminable debate regarding BS 7671 Amd 3 and the non-combustible CU thing that Neutral connections are the source of many overheating incidents that in some cases lead to fires. There is nothing currently in BS 7671 or other...
This is my first post as a new member. I am a stickler for safety, in particular proving wiring and terminals are dead before starting work. Here are two instances demonstrating the importance of proving isolation before touching any electrical conductors. I found them both in one flat I...
Hello,
Recently been tasked with putting in a supply for a hot wash (pressure washer) This is quite the beast, diesel powered for the heating of the water and small 1Ph 230V supply for the actual pressure side.
Bit of background, will be supplied via 10A C type MCB fed via 3C 2.5mm2 SWA to...
Hi lads,
Can you advise on best choice in terms of a proving unit to accompany Fluke T130 voltage indicator I am planning to buy.
Some are 240V, others 400V. Not sure which one I need, you can tell I am new to this. Thanks in advance
Andy
Im getting everything setup for my part p assessment and am wondering if i need to get the voltage indicator calibrated, its the dilog combivolt 2.

Hi guys was just after some opinions really, hope you can help please bear with me I'm from a commercial/industrial background and have recently gone self employed so getting more into domestic.
I understand that we're supposed to check main bonding is in place before any work is carried out...
Hi all, possibly a stupid question, but input from professionals would be appreciated.
Im looking to buy my first voltage tester, (probably fluke) and have been looking at a few.
I understand there are ones with a self test function, or without then you buy a proving unit with it.
My thought...

Interested to hear people's thoughts on best practice for proving dead and achieving safe isolation on an Economy 7 board - the problem being, (unless you work 0000-0700 GMT :wink5:) the Economy 7 supply is unenergised. So 'proving' your means of isolation achieves dead actually proves nothing...
I've been using a Martindale neon indicator for about 10 years and it needed replacing. Purchased the Fluke T100 only to find it trips 30mA RCD's. My bad. What would be a good replacement for the Martindale or should I just by another one. I do find the the retractable probes sleeves a bit of...
