hi all,
looking for some advice please on how to carry out an r1+r2 reading on a 35.mm,(3p+n)4 core, swa cable. it is a sub main cable with a parallel 35.mm cpc. however both ends are terminated into a steel main panel, and a steel distribution board respectively, with a number of other parallel...
I was asked to add 3 extra sockets to a bedroom. It is a one ring supplying upstairs and downstairs with no RCD. Kitchen has a different ring.
When doing R1+R2 with cross joining Live & cpc at cu, I get a reading of 0.23 ohm upstairs and it keeps rising to 1.01 ohm downstairs.
Same problem...
Hi all
This has got me thinking. I am designing a circuit using 3 core 2.5mm SWA and using table 11 in the OSG on page 182.
With an R1 of 2.5mm and the same for R2 I know what the milli ohms per metre is. That's all well and good but I also know from experience that when uisng the armour as an...
Hi all, First time poster here so go easy,
Firstly, i am currently working on a hospital refurb for my company. The job is nearing the end and is currently at the testing stage. Having passed my 2391 over 12 months ago and not having much site experience i put myself forward to test the job. I...
Am testing a lot of tubular heater circuits in a church. All circuits supplied with MICC, which runs to SFUs then via short length of heat-resistant flex to the tubular heaters. Have tested approx 40 SFUs/heaters so far without problem - R1+R2 (dead), IR (dead), then Zs (live) on each one...
hello, just started in this game and am currently dead testing some lighting radials made of gu10 and low voltage emergencys, the R1+R2 readings are a bit high in comparison to table 11 appendix 1 in the osg. Is this the transformer packs causing this? Also am i right in thinking to disconnect...
Hi,
Why would I be getting very high r1r2 readings and Zs readings in a water heater circuit wired in the existing conduit when the house was built back in 19oatcake...? Would the conduit have anything to do with it and if so? Why?
Thanks
Hi guys right I have had my head well confused by an instructor I was chatting to. Now the problem is a run to an outbuilding going through a 30Ma RCD at garage consumer unit, installation is in and works fine, now he is saying if you do the r1+r2 test at the plug sockets in the garage and join...
A bit confused as to what the prefered method of testing and recording Zs should be?
I normally do (r1+r2) +Ze and record all the details individually, but Zs measured from the furthest point of the circuit is always lower than the calculated, due to parallel paths etc I guess? Should I record...
I have measured the highest R1+R2 on a lighting circuit as 1.51 ohms at a switch. However, I get 0.86 ohms on a ZS test at the same point. I am on TNCS system and my Ze is 0.22 ohms. Although I expected a lower ZS by measurement than by calculation, I did not expect it to be this low. I...
My meter seems fine but when measuring r1+r2 the reading really seem to jump about from 0.31 up to 0.71 is this normal on sockets
Why do the readings jump about on a ring figure 8. Test
R1 end to end was 0.61 rn was same and r2 was about 1.66 x r1
Hi I am just looking through certain tests and was getting slightly confused, when finding out your r1+r2 you link out your phase and CPC at board and test on continuity across phase and CPC at furthest point of circuit, this is called continuity of CPC test??? But is this just on radial...
Hello all... again :)
If I can see CPC connected correctly at a light fitting, and I have CPC at the switch, but I'm not getting a closed circuit when testing r1+r2 at this one particular light fitting (all the rest in the house are fine, good readings) - what would be an appropriate note to...
Still a relatively inexperienced so sorry if these seem obvious/dumb questions.
I wanted to spur a double socket next to an existing double socket in a bedroom in my own house on the first floor, sounded like a good idea!
EDIT: Isolated the circuit 1st!!
My first worry.
I loosen the socket...
Hi, Im currently doing my city and guilds training but have started doing some testing on my own house to get head around things...
On my ground floor ring circuit I have recorded the following end to end readings
r1 - 0.50
rn - 0.50
r2 - 0.85
but when I'm testing for r1+r2 im getting 1.35 at...
Hi guys, on a downstairs lighting circuit i'm getting under 1ohm for r1+r2 everywhere but when testing at the hallway light switch (two way up & down) i'm getting 90-100ohms for the strappers??? Never had this before. dodgy switch?
when testing R1+R2 on a ring, is there any reason why the cross connection cant be done at a socket, rather than at the board. I cant see why not, and the regs say that other methods of testing are not precluded, provided they are safe, and give the same results.
The reason i ask, as there is...
When testing its always been said that its important to take your Continuity reading (R1+R2) and that Zs can be calculated (avoiding working live)
So how many of you do all your correct R1+R2 values and then claculate there Zs and put this figure down on your test sheets?
Or are most of you...
I am not so clued up on testing, but willing to learn where ever and however I can.
Recently I have doing some maintenance and remedial work. I am working with this guy who has been 'doing this kind of stuff for years'. We replaced a fan and he insisted that not only does it need to be recorded...
