Hi all, i am looking for other opinion's and experience of fire hoods on LED panels within fire rated suspended ceilings. I have spoken to distributors and some say they have glow test reports for the LED fixture its self and they don't require them, but the building control officer says it...
What are the rules for sockets on an island in a kitchen. Sockets to be fitted to counter top. Also are there any recommendations on which sockets to use?
When looking at contactors, does the coil voltage refer to auxiliary a1/a2 such as 24v supplied from a plc output and contact voltage rating refers to the feed/load being switched? If a contactor is rated to 690v/3-pole could it be used for 415v/3pole or 230v single pole?
Hi guys,
Wondering if anyone knows the ccc of SWA armouring.
Will armouring of 2 core 16mm SWA be sufficient for earthing CU with 80a loading or is 3 core necessary?
Couldn't find anything in regs regarding ccc of armour.
Cheers,
Drew
Hi Folks,
I am filling out a minor works certificate for 2 fused spurs I have fitted from 2 socket in the livin room to supply 2 wall lights 5A fuse fitted in spur.
My question is on the minor works cert where it says Method of fault protection, do I put Automatic disconnection of supply...
Obviously code restricts PVC and twin and earth to 70*C max, but out of curiosity what is the designed temperature rating of the insulation? Just wondering.
Has anyone come across this yet. New build shed with PV on will be subject to the VOA. I suspect that every building will be subject to this.
Another Tax?
I have these two mcbs square d Qox. Both are the same. Both have catagory of duty M2 on the white label. Yet when you peel it away it has an interrupting rating of 10000. So are these 2ka or 10ka? Is interrupting rating same as short circuit capacity?

Using IEC reference method A and B for loose wires in conduit a I have derived the following max OCPD and in turn maximum current loading for general use circuits:
1.5mm2: 10 amp MCB reference method A, 16 amp MCB reference method B
2.5mm2: 20 amp MCB (Both A & B)
4mm2: 25 amp MCB reference...
I have looked for current rating for crimp terminals. I've checked some 5-10 suppliers, none of them say what the current rating for any of their terminals are.
I'm guessing they're meant to be able to handle the capacity of the maximum size cables that can fit into them? I'd prefer to know...
Why would two cables have the same current rating, but different conductor surface area?
I'm looking at double insulated thin wall 2-core 25A multistrand cable.
In one case the conductor area is 2mm^2, in the other it's 8.4mm^2.
Is this a mistake by a supplier? Or maybe one cable has better...
Hi Guys
I very new to the world of sparkys, however I have spent the last 17 years working on Industrial equipment so I'm not entirely green to the concepts.
MY confusion is on the lead ratings for testers.
The probes / croc clips seem to be rated at 600v but the leads are only rated at 300v...
Hi , quick question , in my thoughts requires a quick answer
160amp fused switch feeding existing Hagar panel board fine no problem with that
My superior wants to install a new 125amp rated DB fed from same switch ?
I don't I would want to see a board rated at 160amp or above
Thoughts please
Interested to know what other people's normal practice is for completing the "supply protective device rated current" box on the EICR form, given that we can't pull the DNO fuse. Do you trust the amperage label (60A, 80A, 100A, etc.) on the fuse carrier? Or is that in fact the maximum rating of...
A while back whilst connecting a bathroom fan via a 3 pole isolator, I noticed that it was only rated at 3A, whereas the MCB for the lighting circuit would normally be rated at 6A
I know that pendant drops become the fusible link in that part of the system, but it occured to me that many of...
Hi all a bit confused and need some advice on what size of mcbs I require for wiring a three phase motor just wanted to get some some info on it. So if I have a three phase induction motor with full load current at say 30amps on the nameplate at voltage 415volts. What size of breaker will I...
Not got regs with me. Installing sub-main to detached garage using SWA method "D". Propose using 6mm 3 core SWA cable. From memory takes about 46/48amps. Don"t know about 17th regs..but in the 16th regs were you allowed to add 10% to the tabulated figure given if u/g. Basically I'm trying to...
Hi guys just been to carry out an EICR on a TT system. Small flat and I came across the following: my question is is the cat codes valid I think. Now I have not done the cert yet and I'm between jobs so quickly wrote this so don't bite my head off for not using the correct terminology or using...
Hi all,
I would like to pick your collective brains by asking if any of you has installed a DB/consumer unit in a garden or outside which is flat and flush to the ground . This one is by a lake and needs to be flat. It will be sat in grass/lawn
Ideas or solutions please
Ta lots
