Greetings.
There has been much talk of the unreliability of RCD's lately so I was wondering what are peoples thoughts on the most reliable.
Do you have a favourite brand?
What do you think is the worst brand?
I am hearing quite good things about MK brand but they are quite pricey.
Thanks.
Any one else come across the new 2 lead no trip feature trips some brands of rcbo's? so far i've found it trips wylex, crabtree and doorman smith. is their any work around or have i just got a dodgy meter?
Can anyone direct me to a citeable link which explains in detail how an RCBO works, and in particular what the functional earth connection is for please?
I was told today by a professional, highly experienced electrical engineering lecturer that it’s only for spike suppression, or bleeding off...
Hi all, great resource here...
Hopefully I'm posting this in the correct forum - I have a question regarding some items that I need for my CU.
I'm keen to get some RCD protection installed on the GE CU that I have in my live/work studio. Either through a 80a RCD as main switch or by...
Hi,
I was talking to another sparks that I know, and the conversation swayed onto leaving the wires from the RCBO's and not just cutting them off.
The conversation was cut short though and the reasons were not made to me to leave them as is.
And seeing another thread in the 'Electricians Arms'...

Hello All.
I have recently rewired a house, and fitted a TD-Line CU (main switch and all RCBO's).
All has been fine until now, 1x 6a RCBO for the kitchen and TV room lights has started making a sort of buzzing/humming noise. I haven't heard it myself but the client says that it isn't very...

Why do manufacturers give RCBO's curly neutral cables?
When you fit them into the board they look a right mess, especially when there are a lot of them. If they were given straight neutral cables you would be able to dress them all neatly down to the neutral bar just as you do with your...
is there anyone who can clarify the debate about single pole rcbos on a tt system???
i have a main 300mA s type DP rcd at origin and wanted to use rcbos on sub main cu's in other buildings instead of using a single 30mA device to protect a whole cu
as a whole board going down would be an issue...

I've heard somewhere along the line that using Schneider / Merlin Gerin RCBO's is not recommended for RCD protection, in my case I'm referring specifically for protection of circuits within hazardous areas. Infact, I believe in the same conversation there was mention that RCBO's had been banned...

Im currently testing a large installion 20x 16way 3ph boards. Anyway the majority of the circuits are protected by bs 61009's, Dorman Smith to be exact.
However when i do my Zs test the rcbo trips. Its the new megger 1730 so this shouldnt happen, been on...
Hi all, new to the forum and got a cracker for you.

A customer of mine sets up exhibitions for the like of Carlsberg, Budwiser, Hardys etc.
Each year they have been, they Hire a 400A three phase flight case distribution board, each phase has 10 RCBO's and around the back of the flight case it is loaded with 16A and 32A commando plugs.

Hi all,
Did a CU change today, now have 9 circuits are on 30ma RCBO's
A TNCS property with a ZE of 0.35........
16mm MEC
10mm bonding to gas and water
CU was from the Denmans basics range 12 way
Now all the RCBO's trip fine on when you test them x1 and x5, and when I did a ramp test they all...

Hi guys,
I am quite new to all this and I have a number of questions running through my head. One of them being.....
Do most RCBO's fit into the space occupied by an MCB to enable that circuit to be RCD protected as I have seen posts to suggest this might be possible? (Of course this would be...

Hi people, I have a nice little consumer unit change to do in a couple of days. Quite a nice little job if you ask me but the funny thing is, it's in a flat and there are only three circuits. Lights, ring and cooker. What are your views on the type of CU I should put in? My thoughts are to use...
Hi all.
My customer wants some work doing in his bathroom. He has an old sh*%ty (my opinion) Proteus board (the type where the sides all come off too easy and the board front locks using the spring clips) with no RCD protection. Conventional RCBOs wont fit into the CU as the busbar sits very far...
I've been asked to spec up a job at a newish office block. Raised flooring has been installed with bus bars and tap off leads. Bus bars have been installed using 10mm swa with 63amp MCB, tap off leads have 32 amp unfused plugs on them.. There are about 12 floor boxes per bus bar and 4 bus bars...

I put a new circuit into a CU which had one RCD so thought RCBO on non side.
Circuit installed, all dead tests okay, RCBO in and turn on, straight off of goes, it would not go one.
