Hi, odd one this, I live in an old house and the wiring is confusing to say the least. I keep well away as rent and not my place to fiddle with it. Has anyone experienced the following?
The house has several circuits as is split into a house and a small flat downstairs.
Yesterday, some of the...
So the garage is without an electrical supply, so I decided to install one.
I laid about 20M of 2 core 2.5mm2 armoured cable and terminated it in the garage with a consumer unit.
Added a metal clad double socket again supplied by 2.5mm2 - all mounted on a large sturdy wood board and encased...
Hi
I was called to a job where the rcd was tripping after a power cut. I have tested the circuits connected to it and all ok. I have tried turning the consumer unit off and on but rcd stays on. Would a power surge when power is re-energize cause this.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks
Steve
Hi I wonder if you can help
In a rented property the kitchen has around 10 GU 10 halogen lights the tenant decided to replace these lights with new GU 10 lights And these days as you can only easily source LED GU10 Bulbs I’m almost certain the tenant has replaced the halogen lights with LED...
I was called to a job with a light circuit fault tripping the RCD. There are numerous 12 volt downlights on the circuit so I did lives to CPC and got 0.3 Megs on an IR test. I switched off all MCBs controlled by the second RCD and there was no tripping from the faulty light circuit, but once...
been living in this house for 8years after it was fully re-wired, today the kitchen plugs trip the RCD when any power is drawn (apart from the cooker CLOCK), all the appliances are fine, any socket that I use trips the RCD, any ideas
DIY expert tried changing his own Consumer unit from an old 3036 re-wireable CU to a 18th Edition (100A main switch / 63A 30mA RCD / 7x MCBs) I was called out because he couldn't get his sockets (ring main) back on - NEITHER CAN I, I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING I THINK...
The Lines are terminated...
I've installed an outdoor 2200W IR heater (also rated for bathrooms) in my bathroom which is connected to an outdoor IP66 rated switch and a non-latching RCD plug at the end of a 10m (2.5mm sq) artic flex outdoor cable.
The last 2 times i measured, the heater worked for 17 and then 8 minutes...
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with a recent problem I’ve had on a job. About 5 months ago I installed about 5 outdoor soffit lights from switch inside. All worked perfectly and customer was happy. I’ve recently been called back to the job as the outdoor lights have been...
Firstly i'll point out that i'm the property owner and the installer of the majority of the electrical fittings in the building, including Main & E7 DB's.
now the history lesson... sorry, but it is relevant
property is 230 years old, I have owned it for 42 years. it was semi derelict at...
Plumber changes boiler and RCD main switch starts tripping at various times when its firing up or soon after. (I was there doing other work).
I test ring (that its connected to) and get +299Mohms on all tests. RCD doesn't trip at x0.5 and trips at x1 and x5, all fine.
I've suggested to them...
Hi, bit confused, have an RCD Main Switch 250A with variable settings for mA and mS, now this is set at 1000mA, 1s time delay, I’m getting 99ms with set on 1000mA and no time delay my tester does not do 1s delay, now this board feeds another, so will I put 1099ms for tripping time?
I was just...
Hi everyone
I have a frustrating problem which has recently developed.
I kept finding that my power was tripping. I could just reset it then everything was fine for a while then it would happen again. It might happen once per day or it might happen a few times or it might not happen at all for...
I have just completed an EICR.
The install is TT, Ze is 308 ohms.
Zs on all circuits is <1.5 ohm due to bonding.
There is an up front 30mA RCD which trips with the push button but does not trip when tested either at a socket, light or actually in the RCD itself.
I know the RCD is faulty as I had...
Hi all,
I was at a property yesterday and found a number of problems with their installation.
To name a few.
6mm radial supplying a 8.5kW shower and 3.5kW emersion heater on a 32A RCBO.
Extractor fan unfused and spured from shower in 1.5mm cable.
Isolator and light switch in zone 2.
When...
I’m in desperate need of someone with great fault finding knowledge. I have a dual rcd consumer unit as seen in picture. The left hand side rcd trips when anything with a high output like a tv for example is turned on in any sockets protected by the left rcd. The left rcd also trips when trying...
As above, taking a Zs measurement on a circuit covered by a 10mA rcd. Tripping the rcd on a no trip, three lead test using a Megger 1721. Is there a change in the settings I’ve forgotten about to allow a Zs to be taken. Oh, testing at a socket rather than source.
TIA
Hi all.
I was called to a house recently where the occupier reported that when they turned the oven isolator off the RCD would trip.
So I tried it and that's exactly what happened. There was nothing switched on on the oven at the time. When the oven is on it works fine.
It is an integrated oven...
I have been working my way through an installation looking for why the RCD trips in light misty rain.
I have eliminated all outside installations the only thing left outside the building are the solar panels.
I know little to nothing about the PV installation. So my question is, is there...
Hi
There's a workshop outside the main building with a couple of sockets protected by a 30ma rcd. Even though the rcd inside the main fuse box is 100ma the 100 ma rcd trips without the 30ma not tripping. Changed 30ma rcd still same. How can I get the rcd in the workshop to trip without tripping...
