Hi
I have an issue with random RCD tripping. It happens at different times of the day and no obvious cause (ie particular piece of equipment).
All connected equipment has passed recent PAT test and IR on circuit looks ok (>600M PE).
A lot of the connected equipment has thermostat controlled...
I was installing a smoke and heat alarm on an existing circuit today (aico ei141 )was already in place, so I have used the same type for the install.
All insulation and resistance tests were within limits.
I interlinked the alarms and all worked then rcd tripped. Initially we thought it was a...
Hi everyone.
Wondering if anyone has any ideas on this?
Last night I got in from work and my board had tripped.
Tried resetting main breaker (no good)
To cut a long story short I narrowed it down to the ring main (only one ring main for whole house), turned out I had a broken live which...
Hi all. First time poster here with a hell of a lot less hair than I had 3 weeks ago now! so please be nice, I'll try and explain best I can. I am not a sparky but have some idea of electrics. I also own a multimeter.
Short version. 100A, 30mA RCD trips INTERMITTENTLY on WYLEX 8 fuse board...
Hi, can anyone please explain this situation. 30mA rcd was tripping in a domestic installation. I narrowed it down to a lighting circuit but even with all McB's off, the rcd kept tripping, so I naturally imagined that it mus be a neutral to earth fault. In fact i discovered the problem and it...
Hi All
I wonder if somebody can help.
In our domestic CU one of the RCD's keeps tripping out without any of the MCB's tripping. When I reset the RCD it resets fine without any problems. All is ok for an intermittent period (could be days or hours and it trips again).
I think from the forum...
Hello
Looking for advise please.
Our mains RCD switch 60A 30mA MK LN 5760 is tripping when either one of my larger mcbs is turned on.
- 32A shower
- 30A sockets
- 30A cooker
I turned every breaker off and individually turned them on. All three mentioned above individually trip the mains RCD.
Hi all,
Customer reports sporadic nuisance tripping of RCD. I cannot reproduce it, or fault anything, except SOMETIMES on EFLI test it trips the RCD (megger mft 1553 'no trip' test).
I'm out of ideas here, can anyone help? This is what I've got:
- TT installation (small domestic);
- 30mA RCCB...
Problem as above - is a disconnected earth wire in a socket sufficient to cause this? If so, I would like a brief explanation of the safety mechanism involved.
I received a phone call from a friend the other night telling me his socket werent working and whenever he tried to reset the MCB the RCD would trip immediately. As i couldn't get to him that night i asked him to unplug anything in the affected sockets and then try to reset the MCB, hoping that...
I sat the 2394 written exam tonight and one of the questions was about testing a 30mA RCD.
It asked which tests you would carry out and the permitted tripping times.
I answered that at 30mA and 150mA it was equal to or less than 300ms and 40ms respectively. Which I believe to be within those...
Can someone shed some light on a problem I'm having.
I changed a CU today as there were only 6 circuits they are all now rcbo's there was no rcd protection prior to that.
On the ground floor circuit the rcd test was x1@ 147ms and x5@ 23ms.
However now when the customer turns the heating on its...
Hey all I'm sure it's an old frequently asked one but had a callout this afternoon where young couple just bought brand new high end Miele washing machine and had plugged into an old powerbreaker rcd socket in garage. As soon as it's turned on to start any program and door interlock operates as...
Hey all,
Downstairs lights are off. When you put the mcb on the rcd instantly trips.
I've done an insulation resistance test and I have >20MOhm on L-N, L-E, N-E.
I've checked the wiring at all the roses and all seems secure and correct.
What could be causing this?
There are 4 ceiling...
Hi, hope someone can help on this one since it has me stuck.
A lady had a new kitchen put in 2 years ago with a new range master induction cooker. Everything was fine for a year. Then the rcd covering the cooker, 2 socket circuits and 4 lighting circuits started tripping every time she put the...
Hi guys,
I've installed a new c/u for a swimming pool plant room (very small) consisting of circuits for a pump, electrics heater, pool and garden lighting and timer control for the heating/ filtration.
it has an RCD main switch. when commissioning everything worked fine although the pump had...
Hi all not posted for a long time but found this place very useful in the past so thought I would give it a try.

Hi All,
I am a little bit confused, I have just bought a house and the boiler and whirlpool bath are connected together to a 16amp breaker, I know the boiler should have its own supply but this is what I got.
Anyway if the boiler or whirpool is turned on, it trips the RCD. Ive disconnected the...
Hi got a call last week maybe the week before about an rcd tripping, turns out it was a tumble dryer in a shed at the back of the garden. I stayed with him for about an hour talking him through how the rcd works and reassuring the device was doing its job etc, didnt charge him.
now got a call...
My 3 year old install for a while has been giving me issue with nuisance tripping the 30ma RCD in a 17a Split board I had originally thought the cause was a faulty outside light but one morning recently it was tripping so many times I managed to isolate the problem by switching of the MCB to the...
