Viewed a friends house where a 10mm cable from the consumer unit is feeding a Sub-consumer unit in the shed... The circuit itself is protected by a 32A MCB breaker under an 30mA RCD at the main consumer unit... The sub in the shed is a single RCD and with a single 32A MCB...
Problem is that...
Hi all.
I've just had my house in France upgraded to single phase.
I've bought a consumer unit as i only want a basic set up (minimal electric is used in my house!) and am going to put it in myself.
I have a book which teaches you how to wire up.
The consumer unit comes pre-packed with one...
Hi all, just registered today and sorry to come straight in with a request for help.
I wasn't sure if this would be best in the commercial forum or the domestic one as really it is using comercial type equipment on a domestic ring main.
I have 2 large battery charger/inverters in use at my...
I'm thinking of having a new fuseboard fitted. The existing one has 8 fuse in it and is boxed in. The 2 electricians who have come to quotesay i need a board with A main switch 2 Rcds and 8 circuit breakers. the board will not fit in the boxing. My friend has a board with 1Rcd and eight circuit...
Replacing ring main in metal working workshop. They frequently have 2 portable arc welders on the go. The sockets are all now supposed to have RCD protection, but will the arc welders trip them out? Asking as had a problem potentially like this in a professional photography studio where several...
Good evening every body.
Im new here so hello to one and all
I have a question. I plugged my new 1710 Megger into a TSO in a garage with a two way board on a 30ma RCD. I did an RCD check and my X1 took the RCD out in the garage and the board in the workshop and the main house one too..
I...
Hi all,
I have been asked to carry out repair works in a house which has had a condition report completed by another electrician.
One of the main problems they have outline is that the "entire property is not protected by RCD's - C2"
The D.B is an old wylex board with rewirable fuse's so...
Hi. I have been asked to change a DB in an office that is going to be used as a call centre. The original wiring (which isn't being altered) is T+E in partition walls.
With amendment 3 coming in and the removal of "under the supervision of skilled and instructed persons", would I be right in...
Hi All
Ok...after many years of testing rcd trip times...having some failed or faulty rcd's....we are starting to come across perfectly good rcds / rcbo's . .from various makes....that wont trip at all..or wont trip in under 40 m/s.
about a year ago...in a domestic property..we fitted a new...
Had an old Fluke for years, which has incidentally been faultless . Company purchased a Megger last year however when doing Internal earth fault loop impedance readings are far higher than expected.
I.e..example
Ze = 0.20ohms
r1 + r2 = 0.15ohms
Zs should be about 0.35ohms however coming...
Hi guys, tried searching, whereby explanations have been given as to why a RCD will trip by a fault on a circuit that ISN'T electrically protected by the RCD tripping. Typically crossed neutrals or borrowed neutrals. I'm not into testing. Company I work for been called out to an EV bollard with 2...
Hi Guys, does anybody know what the fundemental difference is between a type 1 rcd in relation to a normal domestic type to bs 61008. These have been mentioned for supplies to electric vehicle chargers....?
Many thanks in advance ))
Settle when rcd's / rcbos are required on sockets please
I believe the way the regs are now written that they are required on all circuits unless they are risked out even in an industrial situation.
I am told this is not the case in an industrial situation as they are completely installed in...
Can't work out if this is utter sh** or pretty good if you didn't possess a earth leakage clamp meter.

Hi all. I carried out an EICR yesterday. It was a BG split load consumer unit and when testing I noticed the zs values were coming out high.
I noticed on the 1 rcd there was 0.50 Ohms difference between feed and load side of rcd and on rcd 2 there was 0.60 Ohms difference. Just wondered if...
Hi,
I have a problem with 17t edition consumer unit (MK Sentry) on a TT system that has completely left me baffled. I'd be very grateful for an advice.
On the left hand side of the board I have a 100 amp main switch. Immediately next to that a 30ma RCD controlling 3 MCB's and 2 spare ways...
Hi all,
I'm new here so bear with novice questions pls.
I have renewed an old CU (the one with pull out fuses) to a very new one with 2 rcd's and 10 MCB's. the old one had the kitchen sockets and the 1st floor sockets on the same ring (weirdly).
Layout is this:
RCD1 63A with:
1 x 40A MCB for...
I have to do a Condition Report for an old installation. Everything is ok but the installation doesn't have RCD's, even for those circuits required by the 17th Edition. Can I write that the installation is "satisfactory" without RCD's ?
Installing a fan for a bathroom the other day resulted in an interesting discussion with the client, who is a now frail but mentally intact long retired sparky. I had fitted an RCD FCU at the DB to the associated lighting circuit to cover the only bathroom circuit,as there were no RCDs present or...
