So, I've got a customer, who according to their supplier, owes them ÂŁ1700. Given they use about 7-10 units per day this seems more than a little odd, but the supplier doesn't seem to want to know. They hadn't had an "actual" reading for 2 years, nor had the client given one.
So what can they...
I have spent quite a bit of time today trying to understand why I am only getting 0.654Mohms on the upstairs lighting between Live and neutral (at 250V)!!!
L-N 0.654 Mohms
N-E 25.11 Mohms
L-E 24.7 Mohms
I get almost the same when measured at 500V (cant remember exactly but about 0.6Mohms)
I...
hi all,
In a bit of a pickle ,got niceic audit imminent ,and i have some exccesive readings from a 110v transformer backed up by 60898 type c 16amps mcb acording to BS7671 pg 61 41.6 max is 0.34 .can change to a type B to get max 0.69. these reading s are from another tester ,who...
Im sure this has been covered before, but Im after peoples views, I am 100 percent confused by the reg that states zs may be calculated using ze plus r1 r2, but r1 r2 cannot be calculated using zs minus ze, naturally I test my r1 r2 and zs. But once I've tested my zs on a periodic for example I...
like your opinions on this ,jus finished a school extension ,everything fine except a couple of loop impedances readings on lighting circuit. These exceeded the appropriate limits,in the regs. All are protected by rcbo"s 10 amp c type, the electrical engineer wants it corrected to comply to regs.We...
1. I carried out a x1 rcd test on a 30ma rcd and the time came in at 44ms with doesn't comply with the circuit disconnecting by 0.4ms. What is the problem? Old/faulty rcd? X5 was 13ms.
2. Done my continuity test on a ring and all continuity was proved. However my neutrals end to end was 0.61...
Hi peeps
I have been asked to test a 'continuous' 20KVA UPS system. Which means the supply goes through the UPS first, and in effect with loss of power you will have changeover instantly.
The consultant has suggested to just get the dead readings, and calculate. Whilst I am happy doing this, I...
Hello again, as usual I need some advice from the learned amongst us. I went to a job today with the customer saying he was reading a book and the RCD tripped. When I got there he had sussed that it was the RFC in his flat and had turned that circuit off. I unplugged all appliances and it was...
Hi Guys
I'm fresh to the EF had a bit of a bad day, replaced an old wylex Bs3036 consumer unit with a new enclosure with 8 Rcbo's (1 x 40, 4 x 32,1 x 20, 2 x 10 amp) all went in fine all continuity, end to end tests and insulation tests went well, until I started testing the rcbo's using the...
Hi all ran a ring circuit for someone about 6 months ago and when I carried out the insulation test my results were around 250 m ohms for l-n and slightly lower for l-e, anyway didn't think anything of it as we had just plastered all the rooms where the ring circuit went.
Returned to the same...
Hi all hope you can help had a spur to fit on an old ring final circuit today that is made up of the old 3092 and old twin and earth were it has been extended in the past the readings i got end to end L 0.16 N 0.16 E 0.32 added together 0.16+0.32/4 = 0.12 but when i carried out a figure of 8 i...
Afternoon
I have a TT earthing system with a 63Amp (30ma)RCD Garage unit.
my ze reading earth disconnected is 169 ohms - happy with that falls within range.
when i do a 3 lead test on my fluke for pfc gives me 1 A reading - also happy with this
ohms reading with 3 test lead is 194
when i do...
Hi All
Ive just in the process of doing a rewire and have been doing some circuit testing with my new megger 1710. On some circuits im getting IR readings of between 300 to 600 Mohm others and showing >999.
My questions are:
1. should I be getting >999 on all circuits as it's a new rewire or...
Hey peps.
As on many occasions doing my electric shower repair rounds, I came across a faulty DP 40a pull cord shower isolation switch.
Why it is I always get a reading of about 70v between L-N load side when these switches fail.
It's always puzzled me why not 120v or 180v......nope always...
Hello chaps and chapettes,
Continuity of final ring circuit I measured:
L-L = 1.45
E-E = 0.8
but measuring N-N I got 108.8....???!!!!!!
Any ideas..? Or are those readings good in my limited experience and consequently I'm an idiot.
A out of date Cadbury's cream egg for the most sarcastic...
Hi
I have my Elecsa assessment in under two weeks and ive never felt so stressed in my life! I've changed my C.U. to use as my job as i thought it would be easier but im really struggling with the testing especially on the downstairs ring final sockets. Ive done end to ends and got Line 0.61ohms...
Hi all have a problem with zs readings on final circuit of 4.4
so tested ze which was also in the same region 4.00
tested r1 + r2 which were ok (dead test) 0.25
tested ze again now a reading of 0.37
tested socket again 0.68
tested again ten min later 2.7
went next door as the two houses...
Hi Guys,
Have seen some similar threads on these boards but still after some wisdom . . .
At clients yesterday and completed tests on a lighting circuit that was moved to the RCD side of the board.
Came to complete the RCD tests before packing up to go home and that is where it all began...
Call out to a house, double socket in the far end of the kitchen has stopped working.
Questions to the home owner (my sister in-law btw):-
Has a fuse blown?
"Yes, this afternoon. I re-wired the fuse myself."
Do all the other kitchen sockets work?
"Yes, only the one that we plug the...
Hi Guys,
I have been testing for about a year and have come across my first tt system yesterday.
I disconnected the earth and tested for Ze and got 8.67 ohms which I believe to be a great reading as osg allows up to 200 ohms. I couldn't do a Ra reading as the rod is under the house and...
