Afternoon all
Just wondering on which reference method to choose..The installation is clipped direct everywhere apart from 1 metre of trunking as it enters the consumer unit, I think I know the answer (ref b) but wanted to check.
Constructive answers appreciated..

When calculating cable sizes...
When I want runs to be enclosed in conduit or trunking.
The grouping (Cg) makes (it) the cable size very large..
What am I doing wrong when calculating enclosed cable size.
An example would be a radial circuit ran with 4 other thermoplastic cables
In...
Using IEC reference method A and B for loose wires in conduit a I have derived the following max OCPD and in turn maximum current loading for general use circuits:
1.5mm2: 10 amp MCB reference method A, 16 amp MCB reference method B
2.5mm2: 20 amp MCB (Both A & B)
4mm2: 25 amp MCB reference...
I've got flu at moment so if this is a stupid/Electrical Trainee/diy type question then illness will be my excuse :)....
How do voltsticks sense live cables but not neutral cables?
Hi guys,
Having a brain fart on a Minor works cert 'Details of wiring system used to modify the circuit':
Type = A-H depending on the type of wiring
Reference Method = ????? I cant remember what it is referring too.
If someone could quickly jog my memory would be appreciated, i havent...
I'm applying for an ECS card and struggling to get a reference from my old employer, will i still get a card with having a reference?
Hope someone can help.
Thanks
Does anyone know of a list or chart cross-referencing compatible makes of circuit breakers?
For example, I have some BG and Contactum MCBs that appear identical, apart from the markings, and I'm assuming they can be interchanged (I hope this is not a rash assumption).
Hi chaps, wondered if anyone had some printable reference method tables I could use for my testing file, easier than attempting to photocopy from the bgb! Cheers Ben
I have always been told/understood that the reference method for cables buried in plaster was reference method c (clipped direct), however I have seen reference made to reference method a (enclosed in conduit in an insulated wall). Does anybody have a definitive answer please?
I've just been flicking through the regs to do some cable calcs for a job and noticed that a 4mm 2 core cable installed using method B (under floors etc) has a capacity of 30A. However it is ok to connect to a 32A MCB for a radial socket circuit. Don't know if its just me missing something...
Done another practice EICR form this week, and i'm a bit stumped on the reference method box on the schedule of circuits.
Is it acceptable to write LIM in the box, as i have listed in the limitations box that i am not removing floor boards/inspecting cables in concealed locations. So how could...
Can anyone recommend good reference books on the following subjects
Central heating wiring and controls
Motor theory, wiring and controls
Electronic components explained
Much appreciated
Amendment 1 added a "Reference Method" column to the schedule of test results and while this makes perfect sense for new installs I am a little confused about what should be entered into this column for consumer unit changes, i.e. where you can't see all the cable runs so can't be sure what the...
Reference methods as clear as mud. What would you guys out there put as the following. This is proving a difficult job as a whole with clients who only want min work undertaken on account of cost, and I have been in discussion with field engineer of my body who has a open mind on it. It is a...
This is a page I wrote to help the people at work understand the reference method.
Hope its of some help to others
Reference methods for domestic installations
The reference method box on the EICR is there to indicate how the particular circuit is installed.
This then allows us to verify that...
Fitted 7 of these today in a property of unknown electrical quality. The board was well-labelled but old colours.
After fitting, they seemed a little flickery, and then went off and began continuously trying and failing to start.
Thought I was going to have a nightmare sorting them out, but...
