Met a (proper so he said) electrician in my local Denmans. In a discussion about changing a CU he said I needed to put new tails in. I said 'wot even if they're the correct size and in good condition?' He says yes!
That's new to me! Anyone?

Hi guys,
not been on here in a while.
when ever I have either installed a new circuit or done a ccu change I have always done both eicr and an eic, but have recently been told I don't need to, I'm sure my niceic inspector said that it needed to be done but I've looked in regs and gn3 and can't...
Had a phone call from NICEIC today telling me that my MCS training is actually 6 months overdue. Had no idea what he was talking about but apparently I need to do a refresher course to be MCS compliant. Anyone else heard about this?
I'm not particularly keen on travelling to Chesterfield to...
Someones told me that to comply with the latest regs then a split load board with half the circuits as rcbos & the rest on mcbs with an RCD is no good & all rcbos is the way to go.
I can see the point but it seems overkill ???
As far as I was aware , there is no legislation to make an EICR a legal requirement ?
But in a conversation on another non sparking forum , I am being told it is a legal requirement for business properties .
If this is the case , does anyone have a link to the said legislation as this other chap...
Just reported by the NICEIC. I know some people will have a good moan about the NIC and AP's but at least we don't have DI's and this stops all the Dangerous Daves and Roger the bodgers doing the I&T:
NICEIC registered contractors in Scotland are recognised as satisfying statutory guidance...
Elo,
Can anyone help me with some advice please. If an installation has no isolator between the supply meter is they a requirement to upgrade it when doing a PIR, if so what code would it be marked down on the PIR as in both domestic or commercial installations?
I've been told by someone that from 2015 all new build properties will have to have a minimum of 600W solar PV installed. I can't seem to find any info on this at all. Is this just industry hearsay, another old wives tale or is it true?

Hi everyone
I've been asked to rewire a big period house and the owner has stipulated absolutely no smoke alarms!
I have argued the case for them and was unsure if these are a legal requirement or could these be left out of the installation on his say so.
Can anyone shed some light ?
Evening all..
I have just been to quote for a bathroom extractor fan and a kitchen extractor fan. I was pretty sure I understood the RCD requirements but it gets a bit confusing sometimes!
The bathroom extractor will probably be 230V (could be ELV though) and all cables will be in trunking in...
I used the dimmable electronic transformer 35-105W (see picture) with a 12W dimmable ar111 LED and it dims ok. I thought that the minimum load had to be 35W?
Hi Guys
Clarification needed
1. Refrigerated Display cabinet in shop has it's condensor outside. I've been asked to provide a supply to an external isolator. QQ. Should there be an isolator inside the shop near the display unit as well?
2. Air Conditioner in home conservatory - condensor...
Normally I fit local isolators adjacent to 3 phase motors to allow for maintenance. I have been informed that as my main control panel is within 8 meters at most from any one motor on the plant I can install a lockable emergency stop push button to kill the control circuit and use this as a...
The owner has had a 'lean to' build of bricks/blocks and wants a couple of sockets and a light installed.
There is a supply, to the existing detached garage which is due for removal, and I can use its way in the CU for the above.
There are no extraneous conductive parts in the new (permanent)...
I'm quoting to rewire communal lighting in 2 blocks of flats. The blocks are 3 story's high and house 7 apartments per block.
After discussions with the board members I mentioned they may require emergency lighting. To which they did not want. Are they a legal requirement in a residential block...
Hope someone might know
