Might be trivial question. My understanding is that we test on either leg of the ring since both legs make up a radial, but some say they test both legs at once, i.e. LL to NN, it would make sense if the other leg is not insulated since this is a live test, but I don't see why not if the other...
Morning All,
Currently carrying out an EICR and going through ring final steps with the following readings:
r1: 0.31ohm
rn: 0.32ohm
r2: 0.03ohm
Started taking sockets faces off to find that there is no cpc, only fly lead to metal patress box and steel conduit trunking. (See photo)
When i...
I have an electrician undertaking the wiring changes required for the installation of a new kitchen. An issue has arisen because he insists on connecting my double oven (max load 5.9kW) to one of the rings - the house has two rings (each 32amp MCB). For the last 20 years a nearly identical...
Hi all
This is a post regarding wiring of sockets in domestic installation
common practice I have seen would be
downstairs RFC
Upstairs RFC
Kitchen/Utility RFC
Would any of use extend on that further ? Is it a good idea to have kitchen/utility on ring and then down ring ? Would use install...
Hi new to this..go easy on me. Times just out, just want to know what your take on this is. Friends wanting to get their house tested, but I’ve noticed his cooker comes off the kitchen ring, would his test fails because of this?? Like a said I’ve just past my test so not 100% sure on this, I’m...
I’m after some clarification please. I have wall mounted the TV and want to install a double socket behind it. I planned on taking a spur from the socket as shown in the photo (bottom right) running the 2.5mm T&E cable in the safe zone to behind the TV. The cable run is 2.4metres and the new...
Done a condition report on a old mains board, everything good apart from ring final, got 0.55 nn 33.7ll and 3.8 on ee, changed board to main switch and rcbos, carried out a full accessory swap on all sockets and fuse spares in house, found some bad practice, twisted lives, n and earth's, no...
I'm insulating, and replacing the wiring, in one of my own (metal, agricultural-type) workshops - fitting 13A/16A sockets on each of the horizontal 'top hat' wall rails, 20m long, with each 4m bay having 4-5 sockets.
This will be done in stages over the next year: the insulation and...
Go easy I’m new to this but.. I’ve just come across a 4mm radial (garage) being fed from downstairs 32A MCB ring. Trying to locate the connection but question is does this comply with BS7671? I can’t tell if it’s on a 13A FS or not at the moment.
Watching Dave Savery video 9
and people saying it's a LeapFrog Ring - still not getting it and why?
also a drawing would help :)
See #14 for video as link failed in first post.
Hi all,
I im in the process of rewiring a kitchen and as Im taking the old cable out etc.. I come across a 20amp double pole switch.
Looking for some answer..
1. it was on the kitchen ring ?
2. It was feeding a single socket behind were the oven once was but it was in 6mm cable from the...
Hello All
Possibly a silly question - can I add a 'spur' to a ring circuit at it's MCB in the CU, rather than cutting into the ring itself? I want to do this to add a power line adaptor to extend wifi coverage.
Many thanks.

Hi all.
Could someone clarify why there is two hob power ratings on AEG IKB64301FB Electric Induction Hob - Black - https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/household-appliances/cooking/hobs/aeg-ikb64301fb-electric-induction-hob-black-10186499-pdt.html
Also what would be the total wattage. Hoping this...
Hi,
I'm a DIY'er, new to this forum.
My situation is, I'm laying a new kitchen ring circuit for my sister. The ring will supply the obvious kitchen appliances including 3kW oven, fan, washing machine, dishwasher, f/f, microwave, toaster, kettle, plus an elec fire at the far end. Potentially an...
Hi,
Extending a ring final circuit off a socket in the kitchen through the wall into the shed on the other side. I already have 7 core NYYJ 2.5mm cable and I was wondering if I could use that to go through the wall to a J/B then connect to singles in conduit which would add about 4 meters in...

Officially losing my EF forum virginity with this one, and would greatly appreciate any help you guys could throw my way!
Through Covid-19 and no work currently being undertaken, this would seem like the best opportunity to finish the portfolio for my qualification. I am a 3rd year...
