Hi all I am about 2 years retired after being NICEIC registered for over 20 years.
An old customer just a little concerned about an EICR just been done on her property by someone else now with lots of N/A everywhere
main one being no end to end readings (R1R2) entered for the ring circuits
I...
I’m doing some tests on my board at home in order to prepare it for an upgrade. It’s an old plastic GE board with no rcd protection. Doing continuity of ring final circuit on the main ring. When it comes to end to end tests at the consumer unit I’m getting no reading between neutrals. All good...
Just a quick question from a new qualified sparky.
So in 433.1.204 when it says the Iz of the cable must not be less than 20A for a ring final circuit.
Does this include a radial fused spur taken off the ring final?
If you install it in 2.5mm in trunking then the Iz is immediately down to 20A...
In a ring if there is a 30A screw terminal junction box in the ring one spur can be taken off this. The j box terminals have three cables in them.
Each cable in a Wago (or an in-Sure) has it own connection slot for each wire. This makes a difference.
Wagos are mini bus bars. If a 32A four...
I will soon be installing a 1,600 Watt Quooker hot water heater for which a new 13A socket will be required. A ring main cable passes behind the kitchen cabinet that houses the sink and I have the choice of either inserting a single junction box into the ring and feeding the new socket via a...
When a open r1 conductor is observed on end to end measurements what is a suitable observation to note on the inspection schedule?
Would Co- ordination between conductor and overload device be included because the CCC has now been affected.
Thanks
Hey all,
Training to be an electrician and trying to get my head around testing.
If a socket was to have no voltage but all other sockets on the ring work, what example reading would I get to show it is in fact a fault on the ring?
Would it be as simple as when I do my ‘little rs’ the tester...
Hi. Here's some background info. I am located in the United States, and have had a Nest Hello video doorbell working perfectly for a couple of years. It's powered by a 16V 10va transformer. I also have a mechanical door chime that rings when someone presses the button on the Nest Hello.
The...
Newbie Testing Question:
I am getting a very low IR reading between L&N on a kitchen ring (0.01M). The ring was working fine with no tripping before testing. Can anyone shed any light on what may be causing this low reading? Thanks
Hi, I have been tasked with installing 3 phase ring main in a tool room. X6 16A sockets. Each pice if kit will pull no more than 5A. Planning on using 4mm SWA cable protected by a 63A breaker. Tool room dimensions are 7M X 5M. Any problems with this?
Evening all
Pricing a bungalow that has 300mm insulation in the roof, as im going to be wiring around the corenrs as much as i can and through the middle would you use 4mm on the ring final circuits?
I want to use 2.5mm radials for bedrooms and living room but my boss is old school and wants...
Hi guys, I am adding a lighting circuit to a Ring main 32 A. Can I just use a 6A MCB type B in a box on DIN rail to supply my lighting. I am using 1.5mm cable after the 6 A MCB.
Thanks for your advice!
Hello everyone.
I have just purchased a Ring Video Doorbell Pro and want to install it as follows as below. For complete disclosure, I am not a qualified electrician but a responsible and experienced DIYer who wouldn't undertake work I felt was dangerous, and always check the regs to make sure...
Just checking, what I think I already believe.
Doing a pre-install test of some outdoor sockets on a ring final. So far, confirmed bonding, incoming polarity, Ze and Pfc and RCD Test on circuit, everything fine and within regs.
However on testing Ring Final, Line came out fine (0.7), Neutral...
Qualified electrician here.
Need some advice with installing a Ring doorbell as mains powered in oppose to battery powered.
I am pretty confident that I’ve sussed it out but I want to make sure before I go ahead and install it, it’s something that I’m not too familiar with.
Customer has a...
Was wondering. I haven't been to college for about 3 or 4 years now and I can't seem to remember what they said about doubling over conductors in a ring circuit.
So in a ring circuit using 2.5mm twin and earth cable, is it recommended that you double over the conductors before terminating them...
So, some of us tape over the cylindrical part of a ring crimp.
Advantage is it gives some form of insulation against accidental contact
Disadvantage is that it can’t be seen for inspection,
To tape or not to tape, that is the question that is bugging me.
P.s. I. Very rarely tape over them...
I think I've sussed this, but I just wanted to check that I'm doing this correctly according to the latest regs.
I have a customer that wants his garage come workshop on its own circuit as it has lots of high power tools such as lathes etc. Currently it is on a ring final that is shared to a...
I have the following alarm system, but I've just purchased a new Ring alarm bundle that I want to swap it for.
Couple of reasons why I haven't just ripped this out to start over with my new one:
1. The original alarm keypad by my door has a power cable I'd like to use for the new Ring keypad...
Hi,
I have a standard single ceiling light that I wish to convert to a set of three light fittings, physically right next to each other and controlled by the same switch.
What is the correct (and preferably easiest) way to connect this up?
Kind wishes - Patrick
