Had a quote today at a new build where they've not bothered to put any facility for a doorbell.
Customer has purchased a Ring Wireless Pro, which comes with it's own 24VAC DIN rail mounted transformer.
Given the location of the CU, it is not the simplest path for a cable run, so looking at...
I'm old school and usually install RFC in domestics - downstairs ring and upstairs ring - old dog, new tricks and all that. However my eyes have been opened and see the benefits of radials, especially when it comes to small extensions.
Friend of friend, has small(ish) extension, bedroom...
Hi all,
Planning on wiring my neighbour's summer house which will be 15 metres away from the end of the house (20-25 metres total distance from the supply CU under the stairs).
Need some advice on which option would be the most SAFE not just the quickest, cheapest method etc. If it costs more...
Creda Starlight replaced 7" radiant ring with 5 turn version which trips at RCD. Tried with 2 new rings , same result.
Replaced with 7" radiant ring with 4 turn version which works perfectly.
What is explanation for this .
Steered clear of wiring these up so far can't be arsed with them but customer got some other jobs wants done so said I'd do it. Not seen fuseboard yet but believe got option if spare 2 ways can purchase 24v transformer for that board or other option is mount transformer in enclosure with din...
What is your view about such an installation technique? Asked to finish extension wiring and the installer has snaked wire all over the floor in white flexi. They intend to put an island in and this could easily lead to damaged cables. The other wiring for lights etc. is abysmal like a massive...
The recent click-bait thread on radial vs ring final circuit descended in to the usual arguments ranging from sane to near-religious, but one issue that was raised among the general noise is the risk of a ring with an open somewhere.
So I wondered if the folk on here that do many EICR and...
Hi guys, I have found a 3 legged ring main during an EICR, it’s 2.5mm TnE with a 16A MCB & no RCD Protection. As it measures a S a ring between any 2 of the 3 legs, can a 32A RCBO be Installed or should it remain at 16A ?
I'm a trainee electrician and I was working with a qualified electrician extending a 32A ring circuit and we were using 2.5mm single conductors (CPC was 2.5mm aswell) going through PVC conduit and then going through steel trucking.
And to connect the old ring conductors with the new extended...
How would I pinpoint a fault on a ring circuit with very little resistances, and without any visual clues, only by measuring.
Say I have a break in neutral between db and first socket. How would I go about fault finding it?
1. I will use low resistance ohmmeter.
2. I will find that rn is not a...
Afternoon all,
A quick EICR question. I have found a Ring Final Circuit that has been run in 1.5/1mm twin and earth. It is RCD protected and OCPD is a 16a type B MCB. All testing has come back as expected for a Ring final that has been installed in 1.5/1mm and the measured Zs is well within max...
Hi everyone,
I’m about to build some cupboards, (tomorrow!) but need to ensure that a suitable cable is left behind them and threaded through the adjacent wall for a socket that I want fitted in the future - on the other side of that wall. (Work is happening in many stages). I’m not attempting...
Hi all is there a regulation stating how many white good appliances allowed on a 32a Ring. Had another discussion with a fellow electrician stating that maximum 4 x 2kw load white good appliances on one ring, but he could not quote the regulation think this is just his own preference. As he was...
About to embark on wiring an extension and cursory examination threw up the above. Have not as yet poked inside. Anyone seen this arrangement before? Can I believe what my eyes seem to be saying to me?
Hi all, just carrying out a EICR with a colleague of mine and fairly new Build house. Install is pretty good all tests came up good with no issues. But we were discussing the RFCs in the house they have 3 installed
1.Upstairs Ring
2. Downstairs Ring
3. Kitchen/Utility Ring
We were discussing...
Can anyone clear this up for me whos maybe installed a few?
It says the ring doorbell 2 needs a 24V ac power supply to hardwire the unit
Ring sell a plug in power adapter for their doorbell......great!
But apparently with the ring 2 only, this still wont work and you have to buy an additional...
Hi all hoping you use can help, came across an issue when carrying EIC on new build installation that was wired by another spark and I am testing it. The strangest thing is there is 3 rings in the house that have been wired, kitchen, upstairs and downstairs. But there is also another ring wired...
