Good Evening all,
Been at a property today starting intial tests for a board change tommorow. There are two ring circuits, on one of the ring circuits i had an open circuit on the cpc. Live and neutral where fine 0.4/0.4. I started to locate the break by splitting the legs and joining the live...
My friends downstairs sockets are tripping the RCD. First thing I did is unplug everything on the circuit, switched on the MCB and the RCD tripped. Tested continuity of L-L N-N CPC-CPC between the legs. CPC has no continuity whatsoever. Could anyone advise me what would be my next step to...
ive been having a dispute with another electrician about using 30A JB's on rings
a ring is made up of 2 legs of 2.5mm T+E,
2.5mm T+E ref method C has current carrying capacity of 27A
now surely the JB has to be rated higher than the cable, but using a 30A jb although this is less than the 32A...
Which code would be considered appropriate for a ring circuit protected by a 30A rewireable fuse wired in 4 core 1.5mm2 MICC cable installed to method C. Circuit consists of 12 double sockets serving a large chapel area in a church dating to approx 60 years. I have put a code 2 for...
I've been asked to install a new RFC at a Ground Floor Flat. The Socket outlets for this circuit are going to be in a room at the rear of the property on the other side of the flat from the CU - the owner does not want me to install the cable through the Flat, but wants me to route the cable...
If I add a rcd to a ring final at the fuse board because im adding extra sockets and moving some other I need to test all old sockets as well right ?? the reason I ask is ive quoted for the job and was discussing with the customer yesterday what I had to do, I saw her tonight at the pub and she...
I have a query about the Standard A1 Ring Circuit.
It is my understanding that a 2.5mm2 cable is sufficient, this is because the current carrying capacity in a worse case scenario is 20A and because they are run in parallel this gives a total current carrying capacity of 40A and so a 32A MCB...
I was inspecting the electrical installation in a large 5-bed late Victorian or early Edwardian property that I am considering buying in Scotland when I came across the 'socket circuits'; 3 32A MCBs so I expected 3 Ring Final Circuits. Each MCB only had one wire so adjust assumptions - they...
Hi all hope you can help had a spur to fit on an old ring final circuit today that is made up of the old 3092 and old twin and earth were it has been extended in the past the readings i got end to end L 0.16 N 0.16 E 0.32 added together 0.16+0.32/4 = 0.12 but when i carried out a figure of 8 i...
Here's one for you. In a foster home for naughty boys the client has a requirement to be able to "remove privileges" of TVs/PCs etc when necessary. They seek a means of doing this without having to get staff to use the Distribution Board. Would a DP switch of the correct capacity be the best...
Hi
I have my Elecsa assessment in under two weeks and ive never felt so stressed in my life! I've changed my C.U. to use as my job as i thought it would be easier but im really struggling with the testing especially on the downstairs ring final sockets. Ive done end to ends and got Line 0.61ohms...
Everytime i use the brand new iron and ironing machine after a few minutes, the breaker trips off. Its annoying to go to electric panel board turn on everytime. The iron and ironing board machine has 2200 wattts. The ring final circuit breaker got 32amp which is enough to protect the sockets...
Hi,
I am about to refurbish two attached outbuildings for an old colleague as he wants to use them for his music teaching (one room for teaching space and one for parents waiting room). After deciding it would be too expensive to extend his central heating radiator feeds we have settled on...
Hi all,
I'm still learning this stuff so go easy!
I've just carried out a ring final circuit test. Having identified both legs of the ring I began testing between both ends of the line conductor, which has given me an infinite reading on the meter. I also got the same result on the cpc...
When testing ring final how do i know incoming and outgoing legs when cross connecting L & N. Will the readings at each socket be considerably different when they should be roughly the same. R1 +Rn/4 at each socket. Cheers
Hi all had a weird one today, actually make it two, tested ringfinal continuity at the board lives were 0.00 and so were neutrals, earths were the same too, not sure why, is it a ring that has been interconnected causing a duff reading??
Secondingly tested another property's ringfinal circuit...
Customer wants new CU and a shed supply. (Let's not get into shed supplies - been doing some homework on this one).
Medium/smallish 4 bed house, has > 100M^2 area, but currently has single ring final, no split.
How to deal with Regs 314 about splitting the load? I'm not trying to spend...
Please could someone enlighten me on how grouping factors apply to ring final circuits run together, e.g. sharing holes through joists and walls, in a domestic situation?
For one RFC run in 2.5mm T&E under first floor boards (ref method B) the cable rating is 23A.
If you group two RFCs...
Im currently studying electrical and im up to dead tests.
ive reached continuity of ring final circuit on my scenario cd , in therory i understand the procedure and what to do but im a little un sure on finding the mid point on the sockets .
please can sombody go threw it step by step in...
