Hello all!
I've come across a bit of a problem today as I was changing a socket and got a tingle (Isolated the MCB of course).
I tested the voltage and it was pulling 12v.
I've found when you isolate the upstairs lights the 12v on the upstairs sockets disappears.
Its a 17th edition dual RCD...
Hi Guys,
Recently I had an issue with a ring main in my flat either the circuit was over loaded or the connection at the breaker was poor. Either way it ended up with a burnt out breaker with black scorch marks on the top and melted cables by the breaker. As the flat is rented i'm...
Ive just looked at a job where the double oven is fed from the ring main with no isolator. The rating is 4.2 kw which would draw 18 odd amps. There is no circuit on the board for a cooker. Im not sure wether it would be acceptable to fit an isolator or would it be best to put in a sole circuit...

I've got a twin socket above where a sink will go, the cable drop is from the ceiling, the socket needs moving 2m to one side. Is it ok to snip the two ring cables high up on the wall and fit two single outlets as a means of connecting new longer cables?
Hi
Ive been searching everywhere to confirm with regulations that you are able to install a fused spur outlet off the downstairs ring for an electric fire (which is only to be used for the flame effect it provides not for heating as have central heating) and a LED Driver for a strip light...
Hi,
I'm after a little advice! I have been Carrying out a P.I.R on a old property. When testing a ring main I received a belt which did take me by surprise! After all I had just disconnected the conductors for the ring out of there terminals. So I isolated the supply and switched on one circuit...
Talking to one of the lads on site today and he asked why i was adding a 13a un switched spur to the radial i had pulled in to the extension. Explained why it was there etc then he said why don't you run the radial in 4mm, doing away with the need for the spur? I have never come accrossthis and...
Need help A property I recently done an EICR on has a fault on the downstairs ring main.
The fault is an open circuit on the r1. To shorten the story I managed to believe the fault is under the floor
and may have possible joint boxes. But the client has sold the property and didn't want to...
Hi,
I have a spur in my loft at the moment that feeds off of the ring main. I wish to put another socket up there and not have to worry about the load on the cable so i've run a 2.5mm cable down the trunking into the socket where the spur was connected with the intention of extending my ring...
Hi All,
Will post an introduction on the new members forum but need to blurt out my question while its still in my head.
Me and Mrs JimmyB1988 have moved into our first house, it has a split consumer unit, half on RCD half not, my sockets were on the half without an RCD. One breaker does all...

Hi Folks.
First post so be gentle....
I have inherited a house which is in need of a good wedge of TLC, we decided to rip out the old kitchen & start afresh.
The wall that held the old consumer unit was going & we got a friend of the wifes son to come round to have a look at what was entailed...
Started on a job today, where the customer wanted a new consumer unit to 17th edition standards, and a check over of Electrics which they know is something weird.
Started doing some testing before i ripped it all out tomorrow, and found Circuit 1 and Circuit 2 supplying the main ring, only dead...

Ring working before replaced the socket front .
Im thinking because appliances with neons pugged in on the ring

Can someone please advise me on the best way to terminate cables that are screeded into a floor ? A socket's being removed as part of a wall removal and the cables are screeded into the floor so can't simply be pulled back. Any advice greatfully accepted.
