Hi I've done a ring main R1 and R2 test all my readings are around 0.15 ohms apart from one which is much higher at 0.83 it is not on a spur it is part of the ring any ideas or is this ok thanks
Hi Folks.
First post so be gentle....
I have inherited a house which is in need of a good wedge of TLC, we decided to rip out the old kitchen & start afresh.
The wall that held the old consumer unit was going & we got a friend of the wifes son to come round to have a look at what was entailed...
Started on a job today, where the customer wanted a new consumer unit to 17th edition standards, and a check over of Electrics which they know is something weird.
Started doing some testing before i ripped it all out tomorrow, and found Circuit 1 and Circuit 2 supplying the main ring, only dead...
Replacing cracked cover on ring circuit, the mcb was turned off , circuit dead
tested with volt meter and got beep continuity on L-N L-E N-E, .
Ring working before replaced the socket front .
Im thinking because appliances with neons pugged in on the ring
and it being TNC system that this...
Can someone please advise me on the best way to terminate cables that are screeded into a floor ? A socket's being removed as part of a wall removal and the cables are screeded into the floor so can't simply be pulled back. Any advice greatfully accepted.
I recently tested a new build (mostly new build) and found 45 sockets on a large ring main in an office environment.
My r1 was 1.6 ohms rn 1.6 ohms and r2 was 2.7 ohms which made my r1+r2 1 ohm roughly
my zs on the circuit was also 1 ohm although I didn't test all of them.
the protective...
Does anyone know the maximum size ring main in an office
I'm don't meters I mean r1 + r2 size
The ring I have tested has a r1 and rn of both 1.6 and the r2 is 2.4

anyone know
evening guys, ive come across lighting in one room of domestic premises that has been supplied from the ring main at some point. the cable coming from the ring is 1,5mm which goes through the switch then on to the 2 x 12V down lights. This is on an EICR I`m doing. There is no chance at all of...
hi guys
need some advice as to which seems the best way to go.
have a customer wants 4 sockets and a shaver point (via 3amp switched fuse spur) adding to existing ring main. Each new socket is located in a seperate room of the bungalowe (spread evenly accross the ring). No current rcd...
Guys, looking for a little advice from someone with more experience regarding wiring this ring main.
I am re-wiring a full house, which has a new extension built onto the back of it. The extension has two rooms, a Livingston and bedroom. So, I have wired the old part of the house in 2.5mm for...
Hi all,
I changed a light pendant at a friends house and found his lighting circuit in the extension (2 lights) is wired off the ring main!!
I have looked everywhere and cannot find a FCU, so can only assume it is in a junction box under the floor!
Carpets have recently been fitted so bit of...
Hi all,
A friend of mine is looking at replacing his existing built in oven (not cooker as stated in title :D) with a new one.
The existing one is on a plug top and is connected to a standard single 13a socket on the house ring main. There is no isolator either.
The new one is 3.5 kW. The...

Going through a ring main design calc for a course I’m on to determine c.s.a of ring final conductors.
As we don’t know the load current for circuit we assume this to be the rating of the overcurrent protection device. I.e 32a.
Only correction factor I need is grouping factor which is 0.45.
32 /...
Hi all, I am new to this site and would firstly like to say hello :)
I am planning on wiring a double socket from a ring main socket (has 2 x live/neutral/earth)
My question however is what size wire should I be using; 2.5mm squared or 4.0mm squared?
The length of wire will be approx 0.5m as...

Hi,
Can anyone help please. I am doing an assignment for college level 3. I am trying too understand how to find a fault on a ring main circuit. I have read about splitting the ring, finding which end has the fault test again until the fault is found. But could anyone explain step by step on how...
I always thought that you were allowed "unlimited socket outlets within 100m Sq."
I got told today that if the floor area was above 75m Sq it required an addittonal ring and this was the "new Regs" .
Is this correct?
I'm installing a gate supply at the end of a customers garden. My plan is to spur off internal ring main and run a radial roughly 100m to end of garden. Providing the long run cable is of adequate size to sustain 230v to the end of the garden am I right in thinking that I can tee off again at...
Testing a consumer unit with horizontal trunking above it. On investigation trunking has been used to extend the cables into CU. The cables are block connected in the trunking to extend them.
Testing the ring continuity, r1, end to end I discover a dead short. 2 legs leave CU to be...
