I was screwing a lightswitch back into the wall when suddenly a bang and the lights tripped, I assume I hit a live wire? Can anyone shed some light on what happened?
Hi all, DIY here :)
First off let me just say it is advice I am after as I am fully aware that I will probably need an electrician to complete the job. My question is how much I can do myself up to a point.
So many years ago I built a shed at the top of the garden ( approx 30m away from garage)...
Hello all,
I have two wooden buildings in the garden, one is our summer house and the second is a kids playhouse that has been converted into a rabbit hutch. I'd like power and lighting for the rabbit hutch, taken from the summer house, which has its own consumer unit in it with one spare...
Hi Everyone . I need advise on my situation. I have C&G 2365 L2 and L3, AM2 certificate and I have 100% on all my mature student L3 EAL Diploma modules . I uploaded my AM2 after passing it and it was approved. Instead of getting the portfolio certificate sent over I have been advised I need to...

Hi All I’m new to the forum thing so go easy on me ;-)
if I am planning on putting a garage unit into my shed which will have a 32amp for power and 6amp for lighting is that OK to be fed from a 40amp breaker from the main board in the house ?
I didn’t know because of discrimination if I could...
Hi guys and girls,
I'm newly qualified and want to confirm my method is sound before I commence any work. I'm registered with my CPS so can notify new circuits in domestic.
I have a new customer that has asked for lighting and power to the garden shed (wood construction). The existing...
Hi,
I would like to put a thermostat in my shed to turn on/off a 500w plugged in electric heater. I would like the thermostat to be remote. I would appreciate any thoughts on solutions from someone who has done something similar?
Thanks,
Chris
I am going to help my father in law with getting power to his shed, but have very rarely done domestic electrical work, mainly industrial.
Going the whole SWA straight from the DB to a new DB in the shed route isn’t really feasible due to distant location of DB and pricing of materials etc...
Say you had to feed power to a shed/detached garage in the UK with a sub unit inside it. How would you go about the earthing? What earthing arraignments can be used at the shed if the home is:
TN-S
TN-C-S
TT
And do you always need an earth rod at the shed?
Part numbers are as follows: C45NV2 228069 6V, C45N 228183 6V, C45 12v but we don't have number for that one as they have been rusted off, and the other one is a C45A 224042 12v.
thanks in advance.
Intend putting a solar panel on a shed roof just to run a few lights and maybe a socket outlet to charge drills etc. What do I do about an earth? I used to have a caravan that had a solar panel on the roof and standard 3 pin sockets inside. It never dawned on me how does one get protection in...

Hi, sorry I’m posting in the DIY forum when I don’t actually want to do this myself, in fact I don’t even want to dig the trench myself, I can’t due to disability, only this seems to be the most relevant place!
Basically I want to hire someone early next year to do the job for me but I have no...

Hi guys
Looking to upgrade the power to my shed, currently use a extension cable.
I have 2 spare spaces in my consumer unit in house so hopefully be able to add to it for the shed, which would have a 4way or 6way consumer unit in it.
Would be about 25-30m run of cable , would 6mm t+e be enough...
I am going to get an electrician to hook the wire up to my fuse box but I was wondering what cable I will need. I am planning on running the cable myself to be hooked up later I am after a cable to withstand 60 amps. What cable will I need
