Hi,
I need a short height 6 way consumer unit around 200mm total external height or less, in order to fit above a doorway. It is replacing an existing bs 1361 fusebox.
Can be RCD as I expect rcbos to be ruled out due to being taller anyway.
Any ideas? Not even sure if such a beast exists, may...
We have been doing work in a flat where we had taken down light and put a temp ceiling rose. All was fine for a month then we fitted new expensive chandeliers. Worked fine for a few weeks then on some mornings the circuit would trip with a bang. Went back did a ir test all was clear 10m ohms...
Hi all.
I have been meaning to ask this for quite sometime.
It seems to be common practice for a few electricians, some of which have been sparky for over 30 years, to had a small length of cable by adding a terminal block.
Is this really allowed?
It seems that if cables are short then...

My friends wife mistakenly hooked up their automotive battery terminals backwards. Now the engine does not start. He later correctly hooked up the battery terminals installing the positive cable first. He then went to hook up the negative cable and there is a huge arch. He disconnected the...
Hi all
After a few hours my car will drain the battery up to the point it will not start the car, and over night will completely kill it. I have changed the battery for a brand new 110ah and still the same. Had the alternator checked and was deemed to be charging the battery correctly.
Its...

Hi, first post so be gentle!!
I have had a bit of an issue with my car recently.

Evening all,
Does anyone around has a list of common electrician terms when it comes to installation. I am an adult learner and I was always stock when my mentor talk to me in short or abbreviation term, e.g IMO, DB. etc. It would be a big help if anyone can share some for me.

any London based sparks out there who are a bit short of work in the next week or so, I posted a post in jobs bit but im also wondering how things are in general out there as being self employed an in a specific sector i am a bit sheltered from the real world of contracting.
You knew it had to come.
Mike and Tony have done the Electrician and Industrial so it is only fair we do one for the short course members, Mods this is not for Bashing them or taking the Michael but it will be good to see the results.
I am off to work now, but look forward to the results this...
Looking at a job where shower is required, and amongst all the other requirements, contacted the DNO to enquire what the incoming supply capacity is. The cut out fuse has no marking that states its rating, existing meter>CU tails are 16mm but will be using separate CU for shower circuit via...
We had an electrical short in our dishwasher which I'm 99.9% sure was caused by a faulty power switch, which you can see pictured. I've since bought a new switch, but as I have absolutely no electrical knowledge/qualifications at all, I'm trying to work out what to do with the cable connectors...
