Adding a light to a Radial Power Circuit - the circuit is wired in 2.5mm and on a 20A MCB
Now if I add a FCU to my Radial and then wire my light in 1.5mm this should be safe?
But what if I don't use a FCU but wire the light with 2.5mm cable? what dangers are there.
Hi, we’ve fitted a breakfast bar in the kitchen. There was a disused socket above it which we are going to extend to a single socket, then spur off that to a 3A FCU. Would this be classed as spurring off an existing spur?
The old 2 gang socket will be replaced by a junction block or 20amp...
Hi Gents,
Just a quick question. I'm adding some lights to an extension, just a few spots which I plan to take from the existing downstairs lighting circuit using a junction box.
Question being, do I need to add an FCU?
I'm comparing this this adding a spur to a ring final circuit and if...
Hi all.
I currently have a double socket with 3x wires in the back. One set is going to a single power breaker ( which then goes through the wall). Not sure what it does or protects as it came with the house. I wanted to spur off to a single socket behind the tv. Would I be better changing...
Hi,
I want to add wall lights to a room, but don't have access to the floor above, so can't easily access the lighting circuit.
There is a power socket on the wall where I want the wall lights. Is it permissible to take a fused spur from the ring main for the wall lights?
Regards,
Glenn
I have two cables for wall lamps (1mm T+E) going to one of the socket in the back of the TV. These lamps will be controlled with smart bulbs with a little remote control or/and an app on the phone, no need of wall switch.
I'm considering to use the 47mm double metal box to host a modular single...
Hi
Does anyone know of a weatherproof simple on/off timeswitch and Switched Spur thats available? Its going to be undercover, so not in direct contact with rain/sun etc but there will be moisture.
Thanks
Hi all,
I’ve got a friend who’s a fully qualified electrician, and today we got into a discussion, I install intruder alarms, I have completed my level 2 electrical science and installation, and 6 months ago completed the more relevant course of “mains compliance” qualification, mainly so I...
I've just finished a small job replacing a bathroom light and adding an extractor fan.
Since it is a very old installation there was no earth to the lighting circuit.
Part of the job was to remove a fan heater that had been supplied by a socket radial.
To overcome the lack of earth situation...
Hi all, new to forum but excited to get in the thick of it. I've done some domestic electrical work in the past as my dad was a HV sparky when he was younger, and I have done a fair bit of LV microelectronics in my line of work.
I have just bought my first house and done some things already...
Hi
Just getting started with a view to DIY electrics on my house extension in a few months time, and ideally would like to map out the current circuits so I can plan the best way to join up, or where new circuits may be required etc.
2 Questions
I reckon I can do some DIY non-live testing of...
2 Questions,
1. 2.5mm T+E on radial, 20A breaker feeding 1 FCU that feeds water heater, can I come off this FCU with another FCU to feed a heater?
2. 2.5mm ring main, consisting off FCU and sockets all on ring, can I come off one of these FCU to feed a FCU spur?
Attached are 2 photos. One is the wiring behind light switch. Other is wiring from that circuit (located above the cabinet).
As we can see: it's 3-core+earth.
Currently, the lights in the room work fine on/off with the light switch. If I connect a simple lamp holder to the wire above the...
really simple one how many sockets can I run off a 13amp fused spur, I know I could look it up in the book, but I'm trying to win an argument in a pub?
has anyone any experience of this. The boiler is 14 years old and has only just gone wrong. when the boiler engineer looked at it he found there was 240v between the neutral and earth inside the boiler unit.
I recently came across some legacy lights which were taken off an un-fused spur which is part of a dual plug socket box. I have been unable to find a combination dual box that has one plug socket + one fused spur connection which seems the easiest way of fixing this non-compliance. I would be...
This is a new one to me.. a small spur circuit (3 double sockets) on ground floor, several small load items connected - table lamp, assorted AV kit (TV, Amp, DVD). On just these 3 sockets only, the power cuts, sometimes flicking on - off - on again. Other times it'll stay off for 1-3 minutes...
Hi there looking to fit 4 double sockets in a loft , there are no existing sockets wired from the loft so it will require a cable to be rsn into the loft , im wondering if i spur off a socket can i then connect the 4 new sockets in a radial from the spur assuming the original socket circuit is a...
I have been asked to fit a set of electric gates and some garden lighting to a property. I'm working behind the guy doing the indoor electrics. He is talking about me wiring the gates back to a plug and the garden lighting to a fused spur. Question is do I issue a minor works certificate for...
Hello,
My electrician is currently wiring a new kitchen and has wired in a cooker switch to a cooker fused spur shown in the attached photo for the electric cooker oven. He has used 6mm flex wiring for the circuit. The cooker hob is gas. He has installed a B32 for the circuit back at the...
