i had an electrician out and they fitted a switched fused spur on to an existing double gang socket in my kitchen to run power out to my garage.
At a later date another electrician then ran another outdoor socket off of the double gang socket.
I'm now having some new patio doors installed and...
I have 3 cables going to a double socket (original socket in a new build, I haven't changed it).
To spur off this and add an FCU I would've thought I would've had to obviously add a 4th. There are already 3 cores under each screw, feels like 4 might be 'cramming' which worries me.
What's the...
Hi Everyone ,
I hope everyone is having an awesome week,
I know this question has probably been covered before on previous posts, but wanted to get everybody else’s opinion and take on it.
So I’m quoting on a job and it entails replacement of existing central light in the bathroom for five...
As a rank amateur at electrics I had hoped to have an electrician complete the mains connection to my low voltage garden lighting. Owing to the lockdown this isn’t possible so I’m going to have a go. Question - I already have a fused spur, fed from a double socket, to feed an outdoor garden...
Just a quick one! I believe this time delay switch should work for my old panel heater (1.25kwh) because it handles loads up to 16A. Can anyone confirm this for me? I had someone tell me I needed a fused spur switch but others tell me I don't.
FYI: the aim is to ensure the panel heater turns...
Hi All, and thanks in advance for reading my question. I have soent the last 30 mins searching online without an answer to y question.
My kitchen is currently being rewired. The hob is going to run off a fused switched spur. The switched spur is currently wired directly into the kitchen ring so...
Don't worry, I'm not going to do it, but I got into a YouTube hole earlier and have become intrigued by electrical circuits! But this is confusing me.
I get that, on a ring circuit, you can run a cable from a socket to create a new socket. But you can't then run a cable from that new socket...
I've recently had an electrician round to wire in some new sockets in the bedrooms. While looking at them today I believe he has just spured 1 socket and then spured to the next on the back wall. I can see the cables going from one socket to another so I know it is not tapped of a ring. Is there...
Hi
I'm fitting a new kitchen and as the light circuit isn't that easy to get to I want to fit a spur off 2 different sockets. My thoughts were to run a spur from each socket and fit a fused switch to feed low voltage led under cabinet lighting. 3 leds under each side. would this be acceptable or...
So picuture under cabinet lights, a 230 supply from a spur, to a LED tamlite driver, and 2 lights coming off of this... why is it that one of the lamps fails weekly and the other one has been going strong for over a year..
Hi guys,
I’m running some power outside.
There is a socket inside the lounge and I want to switch a supply from this out.
I was thinking of a 13A FCU Next to the socket. Then out the back to an outside 2 gang socket (IP66)
My main question is do I NEED to fuse down again for some lights if...
Hi Guys, I have recently moved and want to wire my Nest in to a Y plan system. I have a fused spur next to my old programmer that is in the kitchen downstairs but would want to put my Nest (Heatlink) in the airing cupboard which is upstairs.
So my question is how far can you have a fused spur...
I purchased a 7 day timer fused spur switch to replace a standard fused spur on a downstairs wc electric towel radiator. It seemed like it would be a simply swap out. However, it looks like the water supply earth bonding is connected into here and uses a thicker earth cable than the new spur...
Hi guys
Probably easiest to understand from looking at the attached picture.
I'd like a new socket right next to the main panel in the basement [red box in photo].
It'll power my router, and maybe a battery charger for power tools, etc.
The closest socket is for the washer [blue box]. This...
Hi all,
I have ran added a fused RCD spur off a socket to feed some electric gates. I figured as it was going outside I would put an RCD on the spur on it as I had one kicking around I believe it's probably unnecessary but when I connect it to the supply it will never set and constantly trips...
Afternoon all,
Quick fire question. Can a RCD fused spur still be used for additional protection under the 18th.
I haven’t got my BBB with me and I recall it giving BSEN numbers for devices used for additional protection and RCD spurs not being one.
Job with extra lights and changing board...
Hi I have an illuminated bathroom cabinet that I want to put into the bathroom. It’s 240v . I only have a 240:110 shaver point, so I wondered if it is possible to connect the cabinet someways?
Boffins of the electrical world ... How can I calculate the resistance of 48m ring 2.5/1.5 .. with a 8m spur .. I can quiet easily do this without a spur in the equation but , my test papers require my doing so with an 8m spur. . how does this affect the zs tests ... Thanks v much ...
Hi all,
I have a frustrating problem:
I had planned to add a new double socket in my living room, which has no power cable run/sockets down one wall. This is an interior masonry wall adjoining my kitchen, with sockets on the other side feeding under-counter washing machibe and dishwasher.
So...
Hi All,
I'm adding a new double socket in my living room, which I had intended to tie into an existing cable (that goes to an existing double plug - see pic) using a 30a junction box and create a spur. I've added the socket, run all the 2.5mm t+e behind metal shielding in a channel at the...
