Hi guys
I am doing an EICR for a friend - older build all current works pre-17th edition
have failed the bathroom - no supplementary bonding on pipe work and there is not RCD present
i am going to give a C2 for supplementary bonding and C3 recommending to install RCD
By doing this I am only...
New shaver socket outside zone in bathroom. (FCU outside the room,17th ed'n board).
Checking the bathroom to see if any supplementary bonding needed, turned out the sink and bath taps were hovering at about 5K Ohm (ie >1667 and < 22K).
Turns out the owner had interrupted the hot and cold Cu...
Hi all plastic pipes are run in a flat I am about to start . Only 300mm of copper is used to feed taps in bathroom and 900mm feeding boiler is s/ bonding needed as it is not clear in the on site guide thanks
Alot of the properties I work in, were built when the 16th Edit ruled, most with no RCD's for bathroom lighting. Majority have evidence of supplementary bonding, clamps & earth wires on basin pipework, rads etc, or in immersion heater cupboards. However, some have no sign of that. Now I've read...
Hi Guys
I am about to undertake a consumer unit change and having looked at the bonding already in existence in the property I don't think that any further bonding is required.
I am fitting a new consumer unit fully populated with RCBO's and there is sufficient 10mm bonding to the incoming...
Hi all I maybe returning to the domestic work after about 7 years out just wondering what people mostly do about supplementary bonding in bathrooms now with 17th edition boards do you still need to go to a light point and do you bond all extraneous conductors in 4mm or do you check your main...
Met someone the other day, he told me he was a lecturer teaching electrical installation at the local collage, he said that if you have main water and gas bonded you don't need any supplementary bonding regardless of whether you have RCD protection or not. I didn't want to argue with him too...
I am a plumber by trade and posted this question on plumbers forum but was told to post it here instead! -
I am planning a a bathroom for a client in an extension but there is no existing pipework to connect onto for the supplementary bonding. Would it be ok to connect it to the earth...
Out on site and somehow all the books have walked out the van! Could someone do me a favour and look in the BGB and tell me if bonding is exempted if RCD is in place, and whether the RCD needs to be 2p or not? Not even sure what there may be to bond yet! Cheers muchly. R.
Much discussed issue this one. Appreciate any comments.
I let a small one bed flat out. Electric only ie no gas.
Year back I had a new CU put in with all circuits on RCD's (RCBO for lighting). Accompanied by an EICR. Registered ECA sparks did the work.
The EICR documents that the mains...
With the advent of Rcds is it still necessary to (I) supp bond in bathrooms and (ii) at pipe work from boilers? My logic would say 'yes' so that in the event of Rcd failure, zero potential continues to be achieved. There has been much discussion with myself and colleagues on this issue. I would...
Right here goeshad our visit from NIC inspector today and he had an interesting take on earthing requirements.
He said if a property is protected by an rcd there is no requirement for supplementary bonding OR main bonding ie 10 mm out to gas and water.
i checked my on site and it says that as...
Hi, please can someone confirm whether lights and pull switches etc out with zones 0,1 and 2 in bathrooms require to be included in the supplementary bonding?
I understand the basics and in this instance only the new shower will be 30mA protected, the lights and down flow are out with the...
I went and did a visual inspection on a flat. No Rcd protection present.
10 mm earth to water and gas was connected.
No sign of supplementary bonding. So i did a long lead test and found that all pipe work in kitchen and bathroom was below 0.05 Ω.
Does this mean no supplementary bonding is...

Hi, i am new to this forum so please excuse me if i havent posted in the right section etc. I am a plumber for my sins, and have always been a bit confused about the laws and regulations on supplementary bonding. Especially nowadays when a lot of plastic pipe and fittings are used. I wanted...
When doing an I+T Today on a domestic property, i came accross a fault (C2) I thought might be of interest, its not the first time I have come accross it either.
The house was originally wired to the 16th in 2002.
It had a Night Store added in the bathroom in 2010, all legit. Completion cert...
