Having a discussion with a colleague and we have a TT system with a supply to an out building. It's more than 5m away! Does it need a second earth rod?
Cheers

Hi all, first post for me, been a brouser of this site and all it's great info for years.
Looking to replace an old (fuse wire) CU in a 70's house, overhead cables and TT setup. There is a Chilton ELCB installed in the meter tails to the existing CU, the unit is a Type-E 60A 500ma ELCB (Black...
Hi all,
where does it say in the regs that you can't use metal consumer units on a tt arrangement? been told this by a couple of people but can't find anything
cheers
Hi.
I was just reading the useful information to Sparkys thread and I came across this which confused me a little.
This seems like a bit of a contradiction to me, any comments from anyone?
I mean if you were working on a domestic TT system and the owner wanted mains supplied smoke alarms how...
I've just changed a surface double socket to a flush one and tested it the reading I got was 2.5k ohms!!!
I checked the earth wire to the electrode and it was a 6mm ,the electrode itself needed cleaning which I did with a file and replaced the earth clamp this improved the reading to 26 ohms...
Hi minds my first statement is that I am not a electrician my back ground
is very much in coms, the reason for this post is I recently visited a friend,
who lives in a remote part of Southern Ireland not far from knock, on the west coast.
The cottage itself was supplied by a TT system hence the...
I isolated a lighting circuit, confirmed and locked off. Went to fixture, rechecked for any voltages using a combined clamp meter, looked good carried out removal.
Prior to this, customer upstairs working on laptop was warned I was working on the lighting circuit, but should not effect her...
I have a Fluke 1653 multi function tester and after testing on a TT system need help to ensure I am recording the correct readings from the display.
Readings are as follows :-
Main earth disconnected, Z1 (loop) selected, F1 L-PE selected and three leads connected. Green to main earth, blue...
Hi guys and gals,
Hope your all well.
A good friend of mine has asked me to change her c/unit for the current 17th type.
Her house as I remember is a TT earthing system.
Would you recommend a 300ma RCD main switch and 30ma for circuits ??
Its only a small 1 bed house, with I think 1 x...
HI, I am an industrial maintenance electrician. A friend who does not live in my area has asked me a question can anyone please advise. He has had an electrician replace his consumer unit. It is a TT system. The electrician has installed the earth rod under the floorboards by the new consumer...
Hi All,
I have a domestic TT installation to do on a (Very) Large house that has 5 Consumer units, due to the nature of the installation having to be done in phases it looks like it will have to stay with the majority of the boards. Anyway the question is this :- as it is such a large house...
Did a Periodic today on a TT system. The Ze was a reasonably healthy 38 Ohms and the Ze figures for the various circuits were around the 25 ohms figure. All circuits are protected by a 30mA RCD and the boards main switch is a 100mA time delayed RCD. The Zs figures are way higher than the...
Hi, I wonder if anyone can assist. I have a TT System with an old fuseboard which needs updating to a consumer unit.
I was considering fitting Independant Circuits using RCBO's (Fig. 3.2, p25 OSG), however this configuration appears to contradict the switching arrangements as stipulated on p33...
I have just replaced a broken Cooker switch, no problem there until runing the tests,
I am a bit unsure if it is a TT system or not, Recently qualified, but now in the real world.
My gut feeling says a TT, as the consumer unit is on the upstairs landing, and signs of where the origional...
I am installing a consumer unit on a TT system, The "ON site Guide" says it must have a 100ma time delayed RCD as its main isolation switch, but I have since been told that this has changed and I can use a standard 30ma RCD. Which one is correct?
