Can 2 separate circuits be used for an emergency light, one for the switch leg and the other for the constant power for the battery, or does it have to be the same circuit?
Hi all anyone used or knows of jls training and assessment in heywood, they are a city and guilds training centre but there isnt much reviews on them nor any images on their website showing their training centres?
A friend had a contractor remove a half wall with 2 can lights, multiple 3 way switches and a receptacle. By the time I was involved everything was disconnected and 3 cables of 12-3 were hanging out of the ceiling along with several cables of 12-2. There are a lot of things going on in this...
Got my Videx GSM4KCR up and running but i need to be having voltage with gates open or voltage when closed for my gsm to read the different status. Would a pair of photocells that are obscured by the gate when the gate is open back to the wall and connected when closed provide this and power...
Good Morning. Can anyone tell me what tools would be used when cutting channels into plaster when rewiring an occupied home?
House has solid walls, not plaster board and electricians used jackhammers to channel out, without extraction. I know rewiring is messy but the house was like a building...
if anyone has had any experience with fluke-41 analyzer, please let me know. i am thinking of acquiring this lower cost ac line analyzer to check power quality in residential environment (research power trips, power spikes, breaker tripping....etc, and most importantly to log all that)
Hi,
I am currently building a new outbuilding in my garden to be used as an office which will end up having a reasonable amount of power usage (Heating, multiple computers, lighting and a few other bits and bobs) and I am looking at reusing a power feed that previously ran to a shed which was...
Hi I have been asked to carry out a second fix on a house another spark wired and now hasn't time to do. When looking at the job I noticed he had used 1.5 t&e from the consumer unit to the first smoke detector then looped around in 4 core flex. Them same was doe on the 2 way Switching extractor...
Hi Everyone.
I'd really appreciate some advice. I have a little cafe which was all wired up by someone qualified. The issue is that someone put in a few 50w halogen bulbs and they didn't check the positioning of the wires after a ceiling skim. There had been no issues for over 4 years whilst...
Hi,
My son had a water leak last night in his upstairs bathroom which resulted in the water pouring through a couple of the downstairs ceiling roses. In order to rectify the situation we turned off the power to the downstairs lighting circuit and removed the covers and pendants in order to...
I often work alongside a small team of other trades on flats and house refurbishments for private owners, however on a slightly bigger project than usual, I've been asked to provide a temporary builders board in a large house that is to be converted into four flats. The existing supply into the...
Has anyone done this before? Its a gimmick I know but I always wanted to do it.
I can see some sound activated switches but nothing that specific to claps, unless its a DIY one. I dont see how a DIY clap switch can go into a wall.
We all know this is wrong and breaches regulations and manufacturers instructions.
Good tread on this:

However the question is does it warrant a C2 over C3?
My recommendation is going to...
Hi I'm looking for some help please. I don't have any electrical experience and just wondered if anyone could shed some light on why my circuit breaker keeps tripping the sockets.
This started about 6 months ago when the sockets switch started tripping randomly. I told my landlord and after...
Hello
As the title says... ;)
I'm thinking about having a 1.8A 400V bushed fixed speed drill, mounted in a press, connected to a dimmer switch to control the drill speed.
Any ideas, or advice?
And please, to those who think I'm silly to think such an idea etc, I can do without the criticism...
Is it against the regs to use and RCD as a main switch ? I have been told it is but Im struggling to see anything that confirms so. Im looking at 314.1 in the regs book but that doesn't say anything about an RCD being used as a main.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, Im in my first year of training 2357 and often find that college or work don't actually tell you the most basic of things. I dont understand neutral very well.
What I can tell you is:
Is the return path. That suggests to me current flows via the live, to the load and then back through...
