I have a practice paper for a college exam coming up soon. The question is ...
(Which of the following is an example of a Primary distribution voltage)
A) 400V
B) 275KV
C) 11KV
D) 3.3kv
I think the answer is 11KV, 400v would be secondary and 275kv would be classed as transmission i think...
Wondred if anyone had experience of step and touch voltage measurement and what values are normally measured in the field. Did a test today and got a value of 12.1V for Touch and 31.4V for step potential. Wondered if this was inline with the "Norm".
Have a problem with a customers array as both the Power One 27.6tl and the 20.0tl are registering low Riso faults. The array has been earthed on the roof and is made up of Renesola 255s. When tested across the +ve and -ve of each string to earth the same voltages were obtained for all strings on...
hi all
I have been asked by a friend with a small workshop to swap the plug on an ali welder he has just purchased.
upon inspection the welder has an old style bakrlight plug. and also is stated on the machine as 400v single phase 50-60hz
when the old plug as removed there was only three 6mm...
New to the forum..... finally getting with the times and going electronic! I wondered if anyone knows what the typical voltage levels are in domestic properties in Germany? I know they have an alleged similar infrastructure similar to ours at 230volts/50hz! But we all know with the supply...
Does the current carrying capacity of cables change on what voltage your using??
2.5mm can carry 27a at 230v
would this be the same for 1000v
could someone please explaain this whole process please
Confused lol

p.s i'm a student :)
Hi all
Having a strange problem with some testing .
Did an installation for somebody and upon testing discovered high Ze . ( 640 ohm )
Not happy with result ( after testing all other earthing conductors to infinite ohm or higher than 640, bonding no doubt), i discovered the earthing...
Just wondered what you guys feelings were on fitting one of these units to control grid voltage down to a constant 220v at the consumer unit was, I know we have discussed similar before, but thought it may be time to relook at these units ??
I haven't got high grid voltages to contend with...
hi guys, can someone shed some light on how to sketch phase displacement on voltages please as this is the question and its baffling me
'with the aid of a small diagram show the phase displacement of voltages for a 415/240 and neutral for a small unit.'
many thanks
Evening all,
At work today we energised the newley rewired lighting circuit, only to find that from 3 lighting points onwards, the lights didnt work. Thought maybe disconnected neutral or line conductor. This was not the case, all connections sound.
Disconnected the neutrals at the 4th light...
ok,lets say the transformer getting input voltages 380-400-440-480-660-690 V and out put is 230-440 v,the tappings provided for the incoming voltages but the incoming will be the same connection either it can be of any voltages, how can it be done by the use of relay and contactors for different...
I not sure if others have noticed but I have noticed that over the last few months in my local area Essex that voltages have been dropping to become more in line with 230v.
I know harmonization occurred a good few years ago, but I was always seeing voltage or 240 to 245 until very recently I...
1% volt drop as we all know is the advised recomendation, personally if I'm doing a job I follow advice like this, I'd rather not go back to a customer and say oops got it wrong sorry!
however the firm I sub to have decided long runs on the larger systems we're doing will be ok with upto 5%...
I've got a problem with heating system I've just installed,
A central 3 zone programmer controls 16 electrical rads via a power manager using the pilot wire system.
There are 3 types on rads, Oiled filled with 5 settings, cheap element with simple thermostat and 2 Towel rail with thermostat...
Just wondering if anybody can shine a light on thisI'm working on a 50's bungalow, original wiring, the home owner has basically knocked down a lot of Walls in his house and just stuffed, cut out or taped up various switches, sockets and roses he didn't want.My job along with various other...
Howdy folks.
I have been reading a thread on another forum about PME and lost neutrals and one of the comments was this:
Also:
IET Forums - "give PME the boot"
I can not see how losing a supply neutral would result in an over voltage.
Has any one got any ideas?
Thanks.
Hello,
Really struggling to get my head round the above can anybody please explain (in easy terms if possible) the difference between line and phase voltage?
Star connections with Balanced load relationship to each other IL=IP Delta Ul=UP?
My head is mince...............
Thanks
anyone tell me where in BS7671 it says what touch voltage is allowed for which special location - looked in individual special locations but can't see any mention
cheers.
Can anyone tell me if you can run 240v and 24v in a multicore swa i think i am right in saying if the cable rating of the 24v and 240v are the same then you can, maybe best to clearly label thecable voltages on the cores ?
Hi Folks! Firstly Happy New Year! Secondly I apologise if I have posted this in the wrong forum as I am relatively new to posting on here. Anyway, my question is.....
Are there British or European standards or a best practice guide to the different wiring colours for various AC and DC...
