I have an outlet outdoor, supported straight up by a galvanized pipe. It has only black and white wires, no ground. The galvanized pipe is extremely rusted and breaks exposing wires inside the pipe !!! On top of that, it has no electricity either.
Please note my home is ~40 yrs old.
I tracked it...
Hi, I have taken out an extractor fan from our bathroom to clean it out but didn't take note of the wiring and now I'm worried I'll wire it up wrong when I put it back. Can someone please advise me which wire goes where?!
The wires coming out of the wall are red, yellow and blue. The wires in...
I have romex 14/3 running in my shop on a 15 amp breaker. The back wall of my shop has outlets on the left and the right with the power feed in the center of the wall coming into a junction box. Can I use the black wire for the left side of the outlets and the red for the right side and both...
Hi :)
I'm looking to redo my kitchen early next year and am hoping to remove a defunct central heating timer from the wall and replaster. Once the timer is removed there will just be an exposed T+E from the wall which is disconnected (tied in a knot and buried in insulation) at the other end...
I need some help with a 240V baseboard heater problem...
I bought two smart thermostats for my home. I installed the first one and it powered on as soon as I flipped the breaker back on. Turned the breaker back off, and installed the second one. Flipped the breaker on and it worked too - yay...
I needed to move a socket and to do so had to crawl in my loft, there are wires all over the place (not a clip in sight) and 3 junction boxes all right near each other.
Anyway what the hell is going on with this particular box?
I've got two black wires coming out of a junction box that I want to wire a light fixture to. One black wire has white tape on it. It always has voltage to ground so I think I can assume that's my 'L' or 'hot'. I've tried connecting these two wires to my light fixture wires (and the ground to...
Hi
I have opened a switch in kitchen to find a loose wire and an upside down switch, the switch powers the main lights, lights under the cupboards and an outside light which I think no longer works.
Just looking see where the loose wire goes and to see if it has been connected properly, the...
Having to replace all the fixings in an empty flat for a landlord next week, and they also want the intercom changing - apparently the dirty brown colour is no longer in fashion.....
This is the existing unit and wiring - a Bticino with 5 wires and appears to be ELV AC, but I have very little...
Hi All,
This is probably a very straightforward question, but I'm a bit confused about what I actually need to do this.
I have a device that came with a 12 pin connecting cable (unwired) that is used for data transfer and power. I can deal with the data cables, but the 3 wires for the power...
I'd like to install a new bathroom light. The new light has simple press and insert connections.
The old light (since it is connected to a bathroom fan as well) has 3 neutral cores, 3 earth cores and 2 (or maybe 3?) earth cores.
I know they won't fit into the new press and insert connection -...
Hey all! I'm trying to install a smart switch to control my 3 outdoor lights. 2 wall lights and a lamp in the yard. The house was built in 53, so I assumed there wouldn't be a neutral in the box, so I picked up a GE switch that doesn't require one. The switch shares a box with another that...
Looking a bit of advice please, in case it’s something simple. I would like to drill a hole through an internal wall (about 10 inches thick) to feed the broadband cable from my hallway into another room, so the hub can sit there. My concern is drilling into an electrical wire, and I’m wondering...
I ask you lege's if anyone has a clue how to remove these wires from this cable-plug-housing.
It is from (one of) the oval lights on the side of a Merc Sprinter 2019.
I managed to remove it from the oval light by first pulling up the grey tab, and then using the tab - levering it inwards...
Hello all
I don't have the installation instructions for a Next 5 light candle bulb chandelier light fitting I've acquired, and it has confusing clear wires.
There's an obvious green/yellow striped earth.
But then there are three clear wires, one with a green thread running through, one with a...
Hi all wondering if anyone could explain why there might be 5 wires in a double socket?i went to change the the switch for a new one as the original was damaged but there are 5 wires in there...ie 5 lives,5 neutrals and 5 earths....surely this can’t be right? It has been like this for 15 years...
Hi all,
I'm not an electrician by any stretch, but I do try to do the odd job in my studio. And shortening extension cables is something i need to do once in a while.
When taking the plug off one recently, I saw these tiny crimps that were used. And I can't for the life of me figure out how to...
hey guys, I ran 2 sets of #12 wire in conduit.
One end I had the sets separated and taped - terminated to 2 gfci outlets.
The other end I forgot to tape and I don't know which 3 wires (black, white, green) go to which outlet.
What's the easiest way to identify which set of wires should go to...
