As a trainee do you really need to be buying your own? You employer should be providing specialist tools like this
 
Depends on who you work for dave ... I had a reet tight un of a boss, I had to provide all my own tools and if I didn't have them then I was warned, power tools were supplied and test equipment though (not that we used em much in the day)..:innocent:

I don’t have an employer, I work for 2 agencies.
Sometimes you get stick/ or sarcasm for not having tools, other times I can use what’s provided.

Since I want to be SE down the line, I see tools as an investment. I don’t have to save 45 quid on this tool but I don’t want to be a mug paying for a brand if there’s alternatives that work.

I’ve been suitably scared by tales of fires from poor connections so want to do the right thing.
