10.5kw shower wired in 10mm twin n earth on a 40A breaker a problem

Hi there,
I did wired 10.5kw shower with a 10mm cable on a 40A breaker for an old lady's bathroom.she recently got a builder in to do some tiling work and this guy thinks the wiring is wrong and that i should have use 45A breaker else the house will catch fire.I don't think his is right as there no way this could happen as I did test the breaker and it tripped in less than 5s but tought i should post this any way.

I'm sure a 10.5 kw would be fine on a 40. Think you'd need to have the shower running a fair while to trip it. I wanna now why I can't test a mcb.

Had a job a week or two ago where a plumber had upgraded showers from 8 to 10.5 Kw. They were fed from a board, on 4mm cable using a 40A mcb. I have to say that the plumber immediately said nooooo when he saw the cable size. I rewired both showers in 10mm and then rewired the submain (from three floors below) in 16mm to an RCD protected 63A mcb.

I have not tested the mcbs though - just trying to work out the resistance of a plumber before I use him as a dummy load. Must have been the most expensive shower upgrade in history.

WTF would u listen to a builders point of view anyway? Tell him to keep his gob shut and views to himself, I'm not sure if you if you met him but if you do put him in his place and remind him that your supposed to be the the Electrician

its a modern phenomena eng called my showers bigger than yours at the neighbours...
a bit like the chicken brick that used to be sold by habitat back in the late 70s early 80s...so all the street would come round to admire it...a stoneware pot you cooked a chicken in...
anyway...the point is some feel the need to have the best kitchen, biggest shower,sparklyest bathroom etc...
these people need patience and understanding.....

No it's for better water delivery these can pump 8 liters per minute

If i remember correctly a modern MCB will trip at 1.45 times the rated current. so thats 58A for a 40A breaker, i think it will be alright

I can only assume that he was referring to the 5s disconnection time, at the time.
