the 16th was about for years why would the 17th be a 5 minute wonder

I served my time under the 14th edition in the late 70's, then the 15th came in early 80's, 16th early to mid 90's (I think) the 17th in 2008. That suggests we shouldnt see an 18th until 2018 -2020. I cant keep up with having to do more learning every ten years or so as it is

I believe they may be doing away with the need for RCD on lighting circuits.

Thats about right as they normally have 2 amendments per edition before new edition comes out.

In Canada (& us) their rcd sockets are rated at 6 or 10ma rather than our requirement for 30ma.
They call them GFCI's over there....ground fault circuit interupters.

Maybe we'll have to go to 10ma as well in the 18th
