OK so the time has come.....

.....I've done all my quals (C+G, 17th, NVQ3 and 2391) had a 2/3 years (mostly site, commercial experience) and some domestic (council flats work) but now I'm out on my own.

I have found a PJ. Mid size (mostly lighting (downlighters arghhh)) that NEEDS certificating. Bonding needs doing and some other bits. So I'm going to have to go for it.

Can you guys give me some advice on:

Elecsa, Napit or NIC
Notifying work and the necessary inspections.
Pricing this job (I only went to have a look at it today but I think its mine if i'm sensible).

Anything else for a "sortof" newbie.

Also, a "do I need to change the board" question. Its a RCD main switch (ie all circuits protected by one 30ma rcd). The house has 2 floors...

Your advice would be appreciated

well if not amember of a scheme then you need to notify BCS in advance of doing the work
do the work , test and inspect and then give a copy of the EIC to person ordering the work and the BCS,
job done really , could also use this job later on to gain entry in to scheme

modifying a lighting circuit is not notifiable unless in a special location ( batrhroom, kitchen), nor is bonding.

as for the schemes, elecsa would be your best bet, once you have your MFT, PL insurance, etc.

you don't need to change the board as it was installed to current regs. atr the time. obviously, i would test the RCD.

a minor works cert. would be sufficient for the modified lighting circuit, but with doing bonding ( i assume it;s not there, and not that you want to upgrade from 6mm to 10mm, as 6mm can be left if it shows no sign of damage etc. on a TN=S system. if it.s PME, it is advisable to install 10mm bonding.

i was assuming it was in special locations
though if the downlighters are ELV that is a special installation ( unles pre assembled)and requires notifying even if not in a special location

What's a PJ?

you will need to register with a scheme to notify yourself.

You can use this job as one of your installations to gain registration.

Choose whichever scheme thats suits you.

Price it according to how long it will take you x hourly rate (don't expect people on here to price 'it' with these details).

Look at the regs to decide whether the existing rcd will cover your 'installation' which I put in commas as it's not clear what the installation actually involves.

Start asking specific questions rather than the all encompassing post you have put here for more specific responses.

xx

you guys type faster than me!

****Nice one guys****

Thanks for all your replies - exactly what I was after.

MORPH - some of the work is downlighters in a bathroom. And, the intention of this job IS to gain entry to a
scheme. was gonna do elv downlighters in the bathroom (individual txs??) and gu10s in the front room dining room and hallways. This customer wants to go to downlight heaven. I was really after some more on how and which scheme to get onto. I'm assuming that this will count as a minor job and that I'll have to do a board change elsewhere to get the right compliment of jobs for elecsa.

TELECTRIX - bathroom downlighters - Have a megger - thanks for the PL insurance prompt - need that I guess. Can and will test the RCD (good prompt). No bonding whatsoever - does this make in an EIC not a minor works? other than that i'm "modifying" 3 circuits changing switches and accessories (but not the MBC or RCD)...BTW its a TNS.

VOLTZ - PJ = private job. Cheers mate, will look into schemes as a priority with ELECSA most highly rated ATM.

cheers for your help guys - any more will be appreciated.

or elecsa will accept it as an assessment piece....without LABC notification....once accepted onto their scheme..you can notify this work through them.....
